Since you'll only be able to unlock one ending per playthrough – we supposed it'd be a bit paradoxical otherwise – replaying the game to enjoy its alternative plot beats and epic battles is an exciting prospect. That excitement might be diminished irrevocably, however, were it not for the easy-to-understand New Game Plus advantages on your side.

What Is New Game Plus?

Triangle Strategy Svarog interrogates Serenoa and Frederica

A concept in games (especially RPGs) that dates back at least as far as 1995's marvelously popular Chrono Trigger, New Game Plus essentially rewards players for completing one of a number of branching story paths. In this fashion, subsequent playthroughs in search of unseen endings should feel more relaxed and not quite as strenuous thanks to the reacquisition of various things you obtained on the previous file or files.

There's no hard and fast rule to how a game should utilize New Game Plus, but the general idea is that some measure of past abilities and/or belongings transfers, whether it makes a huge difference or a minor one.

What Carries Over in New Game Plus?

Triangle Strategy Unit List

In Triangle Strategy, a good amount of content carries over, but there are certain things missing that would have probably shattered the difficulty outright. Let's take a look at what you get out of this a what you'll have to leave by the wayside.

  • All acquired units stick around from the beginning in subsequent playthroughs, allowing you to train allies you may have tossed aside during earlier files Does this make sense story-wise? Nope, but hey, that's okay. Let Serenoa live a little. Another version of him already gave his all for the realm.
  • Your levels. Indeed, the menus notifying you about all of this after the game is beaten don't mention this at all, so it's certainly a bit of a shocker. If you were following along with recommended levels throughout the first file, you'll begin Serenoa's retread in the low thirties.
  • Notes and information do not go away. This not only prevents you from having to hunt it all down again during exploration phases but may occasionally permit you to scrape through challenging dialogue selections armed with extensive encyclopedic knowledge of Norzalia's inner works.
  • Your inventory also hangs back with you. This is huge. Stat-up rings give you an outrageous advantage over your enemies early on, all the noteworthy as they will be stronger on replays in an effort on the game's part to keep the scales tipped equally between teams.
  • A summary of your previous playthrough can be viewed. It appears to cover only the most recent playthrough, mind, so if you're using the same core file to achieve all four endings, you'll only see the third by the end.

What Else Changes?

Lots, in fact. Harder mental mock battles can now be engaged with, and as we've noted previously, Serenoa's foes are made of sturdier stock now in general. Expect those mock battles to be particularly brutal if you go in unprepared.

More impressively, you'll be able to view which Conviction points (Morality, Utility, Liberty) every dialogue choice grants. This, combined with the chance to view the Conviction score requirements for units you've not yet recruited, effectively cracks Triangle Strategy's initially subtle conversation mechanics wide open, allowing you to advance to precisely which ending you desire.
