Update: They're still stuck, partly thanks to .

A crowdsourced hivemind of gamers has achieved the seem🧸ingly impossible, defeating Bowser at the end of Super Mario Odyssey, only to now be trapped in the crumbling moon, slowly making progress towards the actual, honest-to-goodness end of the game.

It c🌄an be hard to go home again, as Twitch subscribers following and participating in the communitycontroller stream are finding. Working together, they have played through almost all of Super Mario Odyssey's main story. They made it all the way to the moon, interrupted꧋ the wedding of the century, and defeated Bowser, all in about 21 days. Now, though, they are tasked with escaping the crumbling center of the moon - a thankless job that has already taken 5 real-world days.

To find out exactly what this stream is and what's gone on so far, reꦫad this article on their progress all the way to the Bowser battl🤡e.

Right now, the strategy is one of discovery, memorization, and recitation. Users are taking turns having full control over the game. Each player's strategy is built on the last, and identical until the very end. Whenever one player fails, the next player takes everything that earlier player had done, up until the very end, and ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤♐⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚthen tries a slightly different tactic; if that proves successful, then it's added to the lengthening chain of commands all the players have to memorize.

Players in chat are giving commands that look like "b, adjust forward, backflip🉐, y, hold left, adjust 🌄right, jump, select." Hitting "select" returns them to the map screen, pausing the game and allowing them to time their movements perfectly.

One has to wonder how they're handling the music. Odyssey has one of the best video game soundtracks of the last decade, but the decision to add actual lyrics to the songs runs the risk of them becoming, well, repetitive. Imagine listening to "" for 120 hours.

Trolls, if there are any left, are biding their time, possibly waiting until the best (worst) possibly moment to sabotage the best-look✤ing run so far. Or, perhaps, the trolls have all been exhausted; the only people left watching the stream ar🧸e the dreamers, the fans, the people who actually want to see this Herculean task come to an end.

And then what? Chatters have been discussing (jokingly, we assume) collecting🔯💫 all 999 moons in the game. That would be pure madness (especially since whoever is running the stream likely wants to move on to other games), but finding all of Peach's "vacation" moons? That would be a pleasant, if anticlimactic, epilogue to the game.

At least one participant has mentioned Stardew Valley - the stream's goal would be to collect all the bundles. No♔t quite as exciting as the action-packed Super Mario Odyssey, but maybe they've had enough action for now.
