July's free games begin with retro classic Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, first released for the Nintendo 64 inꩵ 1998 and ported onto the PC in 1999, and finally remඣastered recently in 2017. Having recently launched onto the Nintendo Switch to good reviews, now is a great time to revisit this classic and relive the dino-battling experience!

Dear Esther

For those who prefer a mysterious narrative to pure action, Dear Esther is a great option. The genre is more of a walking simulator, similar to Journey. Players are presented✤ with a minimal UI and need only focus on exploring the island of Hebridean, which is uninhabited, but filled with letter fragments to be found that develop the story. This is a classic game that is well worth experiencing.

GRIP: Combat Racing

Racing games are near and dear to our hearts, and GRIP: Combat Racing is a great title. The racing mechanics as⛄sociated with the cars and their giant wheels is always exciting, and there is a full campaign mode to play through. After climbing through and winning each of the three tournaments, there are several challenges🅰 that require practice and focus to complete.

The game can also be played in VR, though it takes a strong stomach to deal with the disorienting effect of the game’s fast-past mꦆovement.

KUNAI

Keeping with fast-paced is KUNAI, an action platformer featuring ninja parkour. In a post-technological world, the main character is in fact a tablet fighting robotic enemies. It sounds silly, but the gameplay is challenging and solid. A fair bit of warning here is that the game is quite simple for the first third or so, but then becomes far more difficult, with little warning. However, KUNAI is a walk in the park compared to the next game.

Dark Devotion

Depending on your taste for punishment, Dark Devotion is either an amazing g🍸ame or a nightmare to get through. This action platformer is dark, gritty, andꩲ difficult. The ambiance and lack of light while exploring a dungeon demands extra care be taken, otherwise players will walk right into traps and opponents who can take them out in the blink of an eye. Death comes often, but progression is so rewarding.
