Alok Kanojia, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist, has launched a Twitch live stream — Healthy Gamer GG — where he discusses 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:online harassment, depression and self-criticism with popular gaming guests. Known as Dr. K, the 37-year-old says that he𒁏 never intended to be a streamer, he simply wanted to reach out to the gaming community.
In October, Kanojia and his wife, Kruti, 35, founded Healthy Gamer, a company that manages a network of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:video game coaches, who are trained after undergoing a le💯ngthy interview process. Coaches are expected to have good communication skills, knowledgꦍe of gaming, and a willingness to help others.
Gamers can hire coaches, who provide non-medical advice on🌜 video game addiction, relationships and motivation, for individual or group sessions. According to Dr. K, the coaches strive to help people build a better life and understand how gaming might affect them. The coaches use Discord to learn interviewing and listening techniques.
In May, Healthy Gamer raised $125,000 from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Twitch fans who donate to Kanojia's live streams, subscribe or buy merchandise. On his show, Dr. K features popular Twitch streamers like Pokimane, a female Twitch streamer with more than five million followers, World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold,🧸ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ and Alinity, who has endured cyberbullying.
Although he doesn’t claim to offer therapy, Dr. K said the live streams promote positivity. Having been a gamer since he was six, he got addicted to Starcraft and Diablo when he was in colleg💫e. His GPA fell below 2.0 duꦇring his sophomore year at the University of Texas, Austin. He eventually went to an ashram in India, which gave him peace of mind and helped him improve his grades.
He graduated from UT in 2007 with a BA in Biology. He then attended Tufts University School of Medicine and finished his residency in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School in 2018✃. He left Harvard's McLean Hospital last year to dedicate more time to his private practice and Healthy Gamer.
After interacting with gamers on Twi﷽tch, Dr. K realized that he could provide gamers with help with issues like anxiety or insomnia. A typical coaching session begins by discussing a gamer's challenges and goals.ꦏ The psychiatrist has also found himself addressing issues like sexual abuse and suicide within the gaming community.
"Usually my first question to people is, what do you want to talk about today?" Dr. K said. He also uses gaming analogies to “help our community understand complexities about themselves because🐬 they understand those complexities in🐈 the video game."
