Ubisoft has been in business since 1986. That’s over thirty years of developing games! While that may be the case, we could argue that they really didn’t come into play until the PS3 era of HD consoles. They were around, but not synonymous with AAA quality. That 💫is an argument for another day.
The point is we wanted to look through ജtheir entire history to see what their best action games have been. We will only rank one game per fr🎐anchise to keep things fresher. On top of that we straddle the line of what is an action game so expect some shooting and platforming as well.
10 🌊 ﷽ Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
The Call of Juarez series are pretty average Western shooters. However, Gunslinger took them to a new level. Having an unreliable narrator dictate what did and didn’t happen, constantly changing levels as people call him out on his actions, was a great idea for a game. Not many tried ꧃this style before, or since. The narrative was interesting while the shooting and Western motif felt right. It was a lower budgeted project, but it was well worth the experimentation. Look for it out on Switch soon!
9 🐼 🔯 Watch Dogs 2
The first Watch Dogs was touted as the second com🗹ing when this current generation was around the corner. It wowed audiences at E3 2012, but when it finally came out it was met with lukewarm reception. The tone was too dark for its own good and everything just didn’t feel right. The sequel improved a lot on this ﷽concept. No, it still wasn’t a spectacle to see, but the lighter tone made it actually fun to play. Plus Marcus was a more likable protagonist than Aiden.
8 🌸 Starlink: Battle for Atlas
By the time Starlink: Battle for Atlas came out last year, the Toys to Life genre was all but dead. So the idea of buying into another one with a bigger toy to store somewhere on top of the steep price didn’t appeal to many. However, to those that actually did invest the money, they were treated to a star shooter experience mixed with a little bit of Destiny. Getting the Switch v🔯ersi꧅on with Star Fox and friends didn’t hurt either.
7 🃏 Beyond Good And Evil 𒈔
Speaking of stars and outer space, when is Beyond Good And Evil 2 coming out? Will i𒁏t ever? The strong allure of that game can all be traced back to the original darling. It was a mix of open-world exploration games with a hint of stealth and a big chunk of platforming. It wasn’t anything new in terms of these gameplay elements, but the characters and setting of an oppressed, futuristic galaxy struck a cord with many gamers hence our excitement for the long awaited sequel.
6 Prince Of Persia (2008) 🍒 ܫ
The 2008 Prince Of Persia was basically Ubisoft rebooting the franchise and trying to make it more like Uncharted. Heck, they even got Nolan North, the star of those games who played Nathan Drake, to voice their prince. Because we love Uncharted that may be why ꦆwe like this reboot more than any of the others. Plus the cel-shading and emphasis on platforming and exploration rather than combat made it a unique experience for an AAA game.
5 Far Cry 3
No one remembers the original Far Cry. The sequel had some fans, but it was still a niche product. The third game is where things got good, prompting Ubisoft to pump out sequels like crazy. It started out like a horror film with some of the 𝐆least unlikable characters: a ಌbunch of preppy rich kids on vacation.
After they are captured they must fend for themselves and get their hands dirty with blood. Exploring the jungle, taking down enemy ꦅcamps, and amassing large amounts of pelts for upgrades was an experience we won’t soon forget.
4 🎐 Tom Clanꦦcy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Splinter Cell always felt like the Xbox answer to Metal Gear Solid. It was different in that it was more of a technical stealth game rather than one with robots and guys that shot bees. Even after coming tꦆo other consoles, it just never felt right.
That is until Blacklist, which made the game more lenient on penalties, allowing Sam Fisher to complete his objectives more freely. On top of that it had an excellent co-op campaign. Why i🐈t hasn’t received a sequel, or remaster still is beyond us.
3 Tom Clancy’s The Division 🧸
The Division 2 has had some spotty continued updates since its March release, but we still had a good time with it. However, the first is still the best in our hearts. The sequel improved a lot, but the original idea of going through the winter streets of New York during Christmas was like playing through a Shane Black movie. For those unaware he directs and or writes a lot of action movies set during Christmas like Iron Man 3.
2 Assassin’s Creed I💝V: Black Flag
Choosing the best Assassin’s Creed was probably the toughest decision on this list. Assassin’s Creed II is the best pure assassin/stealth game that is true to the series’ roots. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a great RPG taking the franchise to new heights. However, we went in the middle wherein Black Flag kept some roots while opening up more exp🧸loration with the ship mechanics. We also just think♉ pirates were a rad motif to go with.
1 🦩 Scott🍃 Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game
When one thinks of video games that Ubisoft designs, Assassin’s Creed has to be the first thing that comes to mind. While it would be obvious to rank Black Flag as number one then, we went with an underdog: the now forgotten Scott Pilgrim game. It’s a brawler that pays homage to classic retro games like River City Ransom while being a𝓀 tie-in to both the comic and film when that launched in 2010. It was a digital only release for PS3 and Xbox 360, which was delisted in 2014. For such a phenomenal game, it’s a crime it hasn’t been ported to anything else, or even made available to buy. Even if it is a smaller ga🐻me, we stand by it enough to rank it number one.
