The announcement comes from the , and it sounds like the second chapter was not always intended to be a free release after all. "The world has been really tough for everybody recently. So I decided to release DELTARUNE [sic] Chapter 2 for free." He 📖continues to explain the plan for the future, which is where he elaborates on the initial strategy.
"Originally I had planned to release chapters only when all [of] them are finished, but honestly, it's hard both for creators and fans to go a long time without a release". There are going to be seven chapters in total, so this statement reveals that the wait shouldn't last that long at least.
Fox continues, saying: "My next goal is to complete Chapters 3, 4 and 5 for next time. Then, at that time I will ask for people to buy the game, at the 🧸price of the first 5 chapters (including 1 and 2)." He does ♍not know the price yet, but did say it will cost more than Undertale, which sits at £6.99 on Steam.
While this doesn't give us a timeframe for the next chapter, it at least confirms that the wait should be shorter than Fox originally intended, considering that the original plan was to have us wait until all seven are completed. He does however end the update saying "I think I'd like to take a break for a while", so it may still be some time before we can continue the story.
