UNO's official Twitter accounꦏt has stunned players of the popular card game after revealing that somewhere along the line, we basically invented a fake rule.

Raise your hand if you have ever played a board game or a card game without really knowing the rules. If there is even one person reading this right now without their hand raised, we don't believe you. Personally, every time we have played Monopoly, it feels as if we are abiding by a different ruleset depending on who we are playing♚ with.

With UNO, on the other hand, well, we couldn't possibly be playing that wrong, right? The popular card game is one of the simplest to play. Players take it in turns to lay down cards, and those cards haveꦕ to match the number or color of whatever was laid down by the previous player. There are a few other rules, of course, but it turns out that one of the biggest ones was never෴ a rule at all.

When a player hits you with a +2 or a +4 card, you'll likely play one of your own, which means the next player has to draw cards instead or play another +2 or +4. If you get a streak going, that can lead to someone having to draw double figures. However, turns out the stacking rule isn't real. UNO confirmed as much on Twitter recently꧙ and it has sent the internet into a frenzy.

UNO wrote that after someone plays a +4, "you can't put down a +2 t🦹o make the next person Draw 6." When asked in the comments whether players can stack a +4 on another +4, UNO bluntly replied "No." The same answer was given to a user who asked whether players can sta♌ck +2 cards on top of other +2 cards.

Despite this revelation from UNO, some players are refusing to accept it and have vowed to continue using the stacking rule. The same goe🍒s for the other little-known rule, which was revealed earlier this year -- if someone plays a +4 card, the next player can challenge it. If they had another card that they could have played, they must draw 4. If the challenger is wrong, they have to draw 6 instead.
