Officially released back ✃in March of 2017꧟, the Nintendo Switch is a console that caught many off guard. With the Wii U failing, Nintendo managed to recuperate and turn things around. The console has turned into a massive success for Nintendo, selling over 34 million units as of March 2017.
The Switch started off slow, but now has a pretty decent catalog of games. From first-part entries to indie titles, there’s no shortage of great experiences to be had. It’s been a great year for the Switch so far, with titles like Yoshi's Crafted World, Cuphead and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes impressing early on. There’s still plenty to come though, and some great g🌠ames have flown under the radar. Here are some of them.
10 ꦉ Umihara Kawase Fresh!
The Umihara Kawase series is one that most western gamers probably aren’t all too familiar with. They♌’re platformers that are set in a surreal world filled with various salt-water and fresh-water animals.
Fresh! is the sixth entry in the series and marks the first time it’ll be playable on the Switch. It’s a beautiful looking platformer that looks like it’ll be a fun experience for gamers on the go. It already came out in Japan but will release July 9th for North American fans.
9 ♓ RPG Maker MV
The RPG Maker titles aren’t technically games, but as the name suggests, development software aimed towards the creation of RPG’s. The process is fairly dumbed down and made so that most people can easily create their own adventures and there are plenty of great indie tiles that have been made with RPG Maker software.
MV is bas꧂ically a newer version of the software. It was firs🅘t released on PC in 2015 and will soon be coming to the Switch. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but will undoubtedly inspire creators and lead to some pretty cool games.
8 Pikmin 4
With no new mainline entries in the series since Pikmin 3, Pikmin fans are – understandably – antsy for any sort of news regarding the upcoming Pikmin 4. Chalk it up to the lack of information surroun💙ding the game so far, but no one’s really talking about this title too much.
Not all that much is known about the game other than it being on the Switch and presumably taking place following the third installment in the series. Fans can look to either E3 or the Tokyo Game Show for new information, with the latter perhaps being mor🍰e likely.
7 Super Neptu🍰nia RPG ⛄
Super Neptunia RPG initially released for the PS4 in Japan late last year. The game is going to be coming to the Switch later in June and fan of the series are understandably excited. RPG will be the first time that the series has been developed 𝓡by a non-Japanese group, with Canadian developer Artisan Studios co-developing the project.
The game promises old school dungeon crawling alongside some new turn-based combat. The entire series cast will return, with some ꦆnew faces sprinkled in there as wel꧒l.
6 Fire Emblem: Three Houses꧟
As big as the Fire Emblem series is, there hasn’t been as much buzz surrounding the series’ first mainline Switch entry – at least not as much as you’d expect. Three Houses is set to release l♌ater this෴ summer after first being announced at last year’s E3.
This will be the first Fire Emblem console game since 2008’s Radiant Dawn on the Wii. The game is bringing back a ton of key features such as Weapon Durability and Weapon Arts. There are a ton of new features being added in as well, as th🐠e game looks better and better the closer it gets to release.
5 ♊ ♚ Dragon Quest Builders 2
While it did get a release in the West, Dragon Quest Builders seems like it flew under the radar for most gamers. The game is pretty much Minecraft in a Dragon Quest setting. It sounds f♛ꦜun and it actually ends up being a fair alternative.
The game is set to be an action RPG with building mechanics going hand in hand. The game looks to be a nice lax adventure for anyone wa𓆏nting to exercise their creativity and slay a few Slime’s here and there.
4 Astral Chain 🔴
Astral Chain may not have the most press surrounding it, but those that are aware of the game are pretty excited for what developer PlatinumGames has in store. They’ve been behind games like the Bayonetta series and Nier: Automata so expectations are fairly high for Astral Chain.
Though not much has been shown so far, Astral Chain looks gorgeous and with the developer’s track record in mind, should be an incredibly fun adventure. A worldwide release is pl♏anned for later this August.
3 💧Shin Megami Tensei V
Shin Megami Tensei V was first announced in January 2017, and while the news got many series fans riled up, it’s been radio silent ever since. Fans are und🌳erstandably getting tired of waiting around for any sort of news, while most have just forgotten about the title completely.
The game has some pretty high expectations already. It promises to be similar to Nocturne in atmosphere paired up with the demon-raising mechanics of SMT IV. Fans will hopefully get an update on the game sometime this year, but if Atlus proved anything with Persona 5’s developmen🌳t its’ that they’re not afraid to make fans wait for a product.
2 🌄 Bayonetta 3
The Bayonetta games have a loyal and dedicated fan base and they’re part o🤪f why the games have gotten so much recognition over the years. It’s easy to understand why fans of the series are as passionate as they are, as PlatinumGames has so far delivered two quality products.
The announcement of Bayonetta 3 was a welcome one, but not much more has been heard since then. The game may not be releasing this year, as the developer is already working on Astral Chain. But look for it in 2020🎐 if things don’t work out in 2019.
1 🦩 Kill la Kill: IF
Fans of the Kill la Kill anime will be quick to tell you that it’s one of the most interesting and unique anime of its decade. The art, in particular, stands out and it’s something that developer A+ Games seemed to have in mind when making IF.
IF is an arena fighter that will follow the eve🙈nts of the anime with variations. The game is also getting an English dub for its western releases, which is huge to some fans of the anime, and should make the game more accessible to newer fans as well.
