There's a lot you'll need to accomplish before Iron becomes accessible, but if you're venturing into some of the game's most dangerous biomes, you may want to keep your eyes peeled for this highly desirable material. If you'r𝐆e having a hard time nailing it down, here's everything you need to know about iron: where to find it, what it's used for, and how to get it.

Where Do You Find Iron?

Like copper and tin, Iron can be found in its raw form in deposits that need to be mined with a pickaxe. Scrap iron is the raw material that can be found exclusively in the Swamp biome in Muddy Scrap Piles. These Muddy Scrap Piles are mined just like other metal nodes but have a ch💖ance to produce scrap iron, leather scraps, anꦯd withered bones.

While it is possible to occasionally stumble upon Muddy Scrapꦐ Piles while exploring the Swamp biome, these nodes are not nearly as visible or available as other metal nodes. Searching for scrap metal as you would copper or tin isn't a viable solution for producing large amounts of iron. Instead, you will earn a new tool after defeating the third boss, Bonemass, that will allow you to find iron much easier.

Called the Wishbone, this tool leads you to buried Muddy Scrap Piles throughout the Swamp biജome that you otherwise wouldn't be able to see. For this reason, Iron is technically gated by the Bonemass boss fight.

What Is Iron Used For

Once you've refined iron scraps into iron usi🌠ng the smelter, you'll find that a wide variety of recipes become available to you. Iron represents the fourth tier of crafting after wood, flint, and bronze. Developing a strong set of iron tools, armor, and weapons will prepare you to enter the next Biome and take on the game's fourth boss, Moder the dragon.

Iron cultivation is a long term project that you and your tribe will likely work on for a long time. Find iron in the Swamp biome is dangerous and cཧan take a significant amount of time. What's more, you can't travel through portals with iron, so you'll need to either take boat rides back to your main base or create a satellite base near the swamp.

In term🍷s of priorities, a basic set of weapons, armor, and tools are essential. Iron Grieves, Iron Scale Male, and an Iron Helmet will protect you against the draugr and skeletons in the Swamp biome while you search for more iron. The Iron Pickaxe will help you collect iron faster, so it should be a priority as well.

From there you have a wide variety of weapon upgrade choices to choose from depending on your playstyle. If yo▨u're with a group, it may be wise to craft an Iron Tower Shield and an Iron Longsword so that someone in your party can tank enemies. The Huntsman Bow is a worthwhile weapon for archers as it is the first ꧂bow upgrade you will have access to after the Finewood bow.
