The Forest of Woe is one of the first dungeons that you'll encounter in the game (unless you're playing on Hard mode, of course) and it's possibly the easiest - even easier than the Artolian Mountain Ruins. That said, it's a big, featureless, snowy forest with some hidden treasures to find, so let us guide you through.

The Forest Of Woe Overview

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Forest of Woe Entrance

As one of the f👍irst dungeons to get unlocked for those playing on Easy or Normal mode in Valkyrie Profile, you can expect the Forest of Woe to be a pretty simple, easygoing experience.

Enemy

HP

Weakness

Experience

Notes

Dragon Servant

500

Ice

900

These should be familiar from the battle against the Elder Vampire from the Artolian Mountain Ruins. They're not very tough, but you might need to string together a competent combo to break their guards if your sorcerer is on cooldown.

Ghast

600

None

480

Can deal more damage than the other enemies in this dungeon, but still aren't very threatening. They like to guard a lot, but not more than the Dragon Servants.

Lesser Vampire

400

None

450

These are as easy to defeat as they are in the Artolian Mountain Ruins. Don't forget to equip Counter, as their attacks are often guarded against and you can get some easy damage in with counterattacks.

The Forest Of Woe Walkthrough

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Forest of Woe Icicle Edge Chest

From the entrance, head to the left a little bit to find a chest that contains an Eye of Heaven. There is one of these in every dungeon and they can be used to upgrade the map you have.

Before using an Eye of Heaven, opening the map (with the R1 button) will only show you the rooms that you've entered. After using an Eye of Heaven, you'll get a full silhouette of the dungeon. In some dungeons, such as this one, it's not that useful. Instead, you can convert Eyes of Heaven to 1,000 Materialize Points in the Use Items menu.

Now head to the right, ignoring the exit to the rear as you go, to reach a chest that contains the Icicle Edge spell.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Forest of Woe Icicle Edge In Battle

It would be a good idea to make Jelanda learn Icicle Edge. When you fight the Dragon Servants in this dungeon, casting Icicle Edge from th෴e in-battle menu will deal super-effective damage against them, significantly cutting down how long it takes to beat them.

Backtrack a little now and take the rear exit. Continue on this linear path until you reach a fork. Go left first, moving all the way until you hit a wall. Take the exit to the rear here, and you should find a chest on this screen, hidden by a bush to the left. It has a Flare Crystal inside, and is protected by a small explosion trap - just move to the right quickly after opening the che🦋st to avoid it.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Forest of Woe Dragon Servant Enemy

Move further to the rear to find a screen with a Dragon Servant and two chests. Both of these chests contain Element Scepters in them, protected by explosions.

Element Scepters are strong Staff weapons that will boost your sorcerer's (currently only Jelanda) power significantly, but they have a chance of breaking when you use them for Purify Weird Soul attacks.

The solution to this is to simply avoid using Purify Weird Soul attacks with your sorcerer, as you'll get more mileage out of the Staves when used for regular attacks only. Alternatively, only avoid using Purify Weird Soul attacks when you're down to your final Staff.

Now that you have Icicle Edge and an Ether Scepter, give them both to Jelanda. Every single random battle in this dungeon can be ended in one turn by having Jelanda cast Icicle Edge from the battle menu - this is something you can use in most dungeons in the game, especially once you have acceᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚss to stronger spells.

Backtrack two screens to the front, and then one screen to the right. Take the rear exit on this screen and head to the left to find a sack containing a Lapis Lazuli. Head back to the front and then press on to the right, taking the next exit to the rear.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Forest of Woe Hidden Chest

Just to the right of the entrance here, you'll find a chest containing a Flare Crystal. Open it, but be wary of the explosion trap. Head further into the dungeon until you reach a save point. Save, and then head to the left to encounter the dungeon's boss.

How To Beat The Insane Yetis

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Forest of Woe Insane Yeti Fight

There are three Insane Yetis to contend with in this fighꦆt, but you have the tools to make the fight incredibly easy.

Enemy

HP

Weakness

Experience

Insane Yeti

5,200

Fire

2,100

When the battle begins, the game will prompt you to exploit the Yetis' weakness - which is fire♉, if you care to check with the Spectacles item or look at the table above.

You have two means of inflicting fire damage:

  • Using Jelanda's Fire Storm spell. Using it from the battle menu will let you target all three Yetis at the same time.
  • Using a Flare Crystal, which will unleash a very powerful Fire Storm on the entire enemy party, killing all three Insane Yetis instantly.

If you decide to save your Flare Crystals for later, you'll be in for a slightly longer fight, but you shouldn't have too much trouble surviving - the Yetis' attacks don't deal all that much damage and they're easily countered. If you haven't already, definitely equip the Counter skill to all of you party members - those that can learn it, anyway.

If you go the long route, you might want to have the First Aid skill set up on your characters. This skಞill will, when activated, let your characters heal each other. This should be enough healing to avoid having to waste turns on manually using Elixirs.

Forest Of Woe Artifacts

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Forest of Woe Artifact Chests

There are two artifacts to pick up after beating the Insane Yetis - as always, do not worry about incurring Odin's wrath, the small Evaluation Score minus is nothing compared to the boosts you get by transferring heroes up to Valhalla.

Extreme Guard

A very handy piece of armor that doesn't give you any RDM but will let you counter attacks with fire, and protects against fire damage itself.

Phoenix Feather

A fantastic possession that, when equipped, will revive the wearer from death whenever they get knocked out. Has a 10% chance to break when this happens, but you should circumvent this by Rewinding if it happens (if you're playing on the remastered version of the game).

Grab both artifacts and backtrack all the way out of the dungeon to leave. In some dungeons, 𓃲there are shortcuts to get to the world map, but not in this one. Use the map to help you get to the en🌼trance if you need it.
