Valve mi♉ght be working on a sequel to the Index, according to a new report. YouTuber Brad Lynch, who focuses mainly on virtual reality tech, from patent applications and his own sources that Valve is working on a new standalone VR headset much like the Oculus Quest.
The Valve Index was 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:released back in 2019, and although it’s widely considered one of the best VR setups available, it still requires a massive investment inꦓ both money and real estate thanks to its external sensors. The Index also needs to be powered by a fairly high-end gaming PC, which just adds to the cost.
The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Oculus Quest (and Quest 2) don&rs꧋quo;t require nearly as much tech thanks to having in🐬ternal sensors and built-in processing power that lets it play a limited selection of VR games all on its own.
Valve's new headset is codenamed "Deckard," according to Lynch. Like the Quest, it won't require a PC tether and will come with some sort of internal tracking and processing power, drastically reducing its overall footprint when compared to the Index.
corroborated Lynch's video with their own sources. They also noted the Index's development originally branched off from two VR prototypes--one which included an internal processor like the Quest and one that didn't. Valve couldn't get the internal tracking and processing to work right, so they decided to continue with what would later become the Index. What Lynch is reporting might be Valve reviving their other canceled prototype.
However, it should be noted that Valve has a habit of prototyping things internally that never see the light of day. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Steam Deck's origin story is full 🐽of prototypes that never worked, so this latest Valve VR prototype might never see the light of day either.
