Not every PC gamer loves getting into the weeds with their hardware, but there’s definitely a segment of the PC gaming population that loves their gadgets as much as their games. That’s why Valve has released a new teardown video showing the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Steam Deck’s innards. However, Valve ⛄makes it clear from the get-go that they really don’t want you to open up🌌 your Deck no matter how enthusiastic you are about tech.
"In one way this is a how-to video, but in another way, it's a why you really shouldn't do this video,” says Valve, or at least a voice actor standing in for Valve. “That's because even though it's your PC, or will be once you've received your steam deck, and you have every right to open it up and do what you want, we at Valve really don't recommend that you ever open it up."
The reason why becomes immediately apparent as soon as the case gets popped off. First, the case is held together with self-tapping screws embedded in plastic bosses which can be easily stripped or over-torqued. If that happens, you won't be able to put your Deck back together.
Second, everything is extremely tightly packed. It's like a laptop in there, but worse. Most of the Deck's parts are custom-designed and not swappable, and if you do try to swap out a part for something else, it might cause issues with the Deck's operation or it just might not fit back together at all.
That said, Valve admits that "taking things apart and putting them together is cool," so the video goes through everything you need to do to replace the SSD and thumbsticks. Valve notes that these components will be replaceable in the future from a Valve-approved source, but repeats that unless you're a professional, you should absolutely never open up your Steam Deck.
It might be a little over-the-top to suggest that you might die from exploring the inside of your Deck, but a damaged lithium-ion battery can definitely explode if tampered wi♏th. Also, any damage you cause isn’t covered under warranty, so don’t expect a replacement if you just𒈔 start digging through the Deck’s guts for giggles.
