The latest content pack for is on its way, and is scheduled to bring with it an industrialized nation’s worth of new additions and upgrades. The Ethiopia Pack is part of the New Frontier Pass that will be available for Civ VI players this July 23.
The upcoming Ethiopia Pack update is the second DLC added to Civ VI as part of the New Frontier Pass, and will include a new civ (Ethiopia) and its leader, a new District with additional buildings, and two new Persona Packs (Teddy Roosevelt and Catherine De Medici). But perhaps the most interesting update is the inclusion of Secret Societies, a new optional game mode that allows players to join four distinct societies with their oᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚwn rules and benefits, including cultists, spies, occult scientists, and vampires.
The Secret Societies game mode will be available to Civ VI players who have either the Rise and Fall or Gathering Storm ⭕expansions. As detailed in the , the Secret Societies are the Owls of Minerva, the Hermetic Order, the Voidsingers, and the Sanguine Pact. Each Society comes with its own unique governor and works in worldwide networks, eliminating the need to assign them to a specific city. Each governor has four available promotions they can advance to, and each promotion level holds benefitꦇs that apply to your entire civ.
The Hermetic Order holds alchemy and occult science as their primary values, and derive their technology from theories and inventions dismissed as mere fairy tales by others civs. Their building is the🌠 Alchemical Society, which replaces the University building while retaining all its bonuses, adds extra Great Merchant and Great Engineer points, and increases Gold and Production.
The Owls of Minerva act behind the scenes of civs to mastermind plots and use espionage to accomplish their goals. Their building is the Guilded Vault, a Bank-replacing building with all its benefits t🧔hat will also provide Culture to go along with the gold-adjacency bonus of your Commercial Hubs. It also provides an addꦬitional Trade Route to cities that have a Harbor.
The Sanguine Pact is a society of vampires, a militaristic regime that operates best at night, and whose army units gain combat strength when adjacent enemy units die. Their building is the Vampire Castle, which can be placed in any open hex in enemy or 🍸neutral territory, and grant💦s defensive bonuses and extra resource yields. In later eras, these castles unlock the ability to teleport units between them.
The Voidsingers is a Cthulhu mythos-styled society that worships the Old Gods and uses chaos to inflict madness upon their enemies. Their building is the Old God Obelisk, which replaces the Monument but keeps all its benefits, and adds Faith and Great Works slots. Cultists are the Voidsingers unique unit, who 𒅌are purchased with Faith, and have the ability to recruit followers in enemy cities, spreading madness within them and reducing the city’s loyalty.
