This article contains spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

At the end of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man 2’s second act, Peter Parker has successfully separated himself from the Symbiote and swings over to Curt Connors to get some science action going on the black alien ooze. Once he gets there, Harry Osborn ambushes him, knocks the canister carrying the cousin of Carnage out of his hand, and transforms into the sharp-toothed behemoth, unleashing Venom on New York City. And, in the process, unleashing one of 🐷the game’s best levels on its player🌺s.

After Harry transforms into Venom in all his rancid beefcake glory, he rampages through the many floors of the Oscorp skyscraper, bursting through walls and murdering a host of his father’s go🎶ons in the process. Once he escapes, he works his way through the streets of New York, skewering Hunters as he goes. Eventually Kraven appears, and the two villains go toe to toe, with Venom winning the fight. As Kraven declares him a worthy foe, Venom s꧟inks his teeth into the vicious trapper, putting a deadly end to his final hunt.

The entire chapter rules, and while Spider-Man 2 often recalls the excellence of the GameCube game with a similar name, this chaotic march through the city reminded me far more of another superhero game from the same era: The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. That 2005 title cast players as the brawly green giant as he smashed his way through a destruct✱ible open-world city. It was awesome. Hulk could grab cars off the curb and turn them into metal boxing gloves or hop on a bus and skateboard down the street.

The Venom level in Spider-Man 2 feels more like Ultimate Destruction than anything else I’♏ve played since 2005 (and though it would be sad to see Insomniac become ‘the Marvel studio’, this mission proves that it ha𓆏s the chops to make a badass Hulk game). The building is limited in its destructibility — you can only smash through certain walls — but the things you can destroy react forcefully enough that you feel powerful. Jumping from ledge to ledge and sending paper and plexiglass flying as you land feels immaculate.

Insomniac seems open to the idea of mak♊ing a Venom spin-off if fans want it. Given how good the smaller scale 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man: Miles Morales was, a shorter game s🍒tarring Venom could be great.

There are other touches that recall Ultimate Destruction, too. Much of the combat in that game centered꧑ on Hulk grabbing enemies and smashing them into the ground, and Venom can do the same thing here. If you press R1, you can pick up an eꦗnemy and then slam them into another opponent. When riot guards appear, you can grab their shields and hurl them at another foe. It all feels right.

Now I really just want a spin-off action game that lets you play as Venom and turns you loose to commit chaos. It’s rad to play as Venom in this one level, but it has me hungry for the full 19 inches. Let me bound around the city crushing cars, denting the pavement wherever I land, destroying buildings, and using pedestrians as long-range projectiles. Let me kill Spider-Man’s iconic villains and beat the shit out of Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Let me be Venom. And let there b💎e carnage.
