Dialogue can add a lot to a game. It can increase the feelings of immersion, add a sense of joy or humor to scenes, show us characters' personalities, etc. But sometimes you just want to mash the button to skip through dialogue and get on with the gameplay, especially in the cases where dialogue gets super repetitive. And as much as dialogue can add to the gameplay experience, sometimes it is just plain annoying.

Thank goodness for the developers who allow us to skip through the dia🌱logue in their games, as there are only so many times you can hear a character repeat a certain line before you hit the save button and pull out your weapon.

7 🍎 Tutorials For Games We’ve Played Before

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword's tutorials can now be suspended in a QOL change

There are some wonderful tutღorials out there that don’t even feel like tutorials, even if they’re literally holding your♉ hand🔯 through it - and then there are the tutorials that are so overbearing that it makes the tutorial character feel like a helicopter parent.

This is made even worse when it’s for a game that you’ve played before, or part of a series that you’ve played a lot of, such as most 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Legend of Zelda or Pokemon games. But perhaps the worst of them all is when a tutorial character breaks the fourth wall to explain what the most basic buttons do, as if you'd have gotten this far without knowing that already.

6 🧸 🌜 Merchant Dialogue

A male shopkeeper leans on the counter inside his shop. An open fireplace and stove is visible in the background.

When you’ve been hoarding items for a while, the last thing you want is a monologue from the merchant you want to offload them on. Especially because said monologues tend to be just a sales pitch for items that are either pretty useless or less effective than the ones you already have. No one is rus🐽hing to buy a useless dinner plate, just let us sell the gems that we’ve been stuffing our pockets with.

This is made even worse when skipping through the dialogue doesn’t actually stop the dialogue, but just opens up the shop menu, which happens a lot when playing Skyrim. There are only so many times that a person can hear Belethor insist that “Everything&rsquo♏;s f🅰or sale, if I had a sister I’d sell her in a second.”

5 Objective Repeating 🤪

Skyrim bear fighting a troll

You know that feeling when you’re about to go do something and then right before you can do it, someone asks you to do it? And then you don’t want to anymore out of spite? It seems that sometimes video games forget this feeling when they have ꧒characters tell you what to do immediately after your quest lꦐog does.

It’s one thing if a character tells you to do something and then your quest log updates to that new objective. But there’s nothing that will get you button mashing to skip through dialogue more quickly than seeing the quest ob꧟jective for “kill ten bears” p๊op up after an NPC was complaining about the local bears getting out of control, and then that NPC has the nerve to immediately say “Don’t forget to kill those bears for me.” Deal with those bears yourself.

4 𝄹 Soulsborne Fire Keepers And Plain Doll

The Plain Doll sitting motionless in Bloodborne

The Fire Keepers of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dark Souls will be a repeated sighting while resting at bonfires and leveling up, and you’ll be skipping through their 💝dialogue just as often. And if skipping through their dialogue angers you enough, you can kill them - however, the game will punish you by no longer letting you use their bonfires (and you deserve it, you monster).

Interestingly enough, this was also 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:almost a possibility with the Pꦗlain Doll in , but the developers, 🍸fortunately, removed that option from the game. Bloodborne’s Plain Doll is an icon of the game, being the vessel through which you level up your character, and while hearing “Welcome home, Good Hunter. What is it you desire?” may be comforting the first couple of times you hear it, by the end of the game you’ll have skipped through this dialogue almost as much as you’ve died.

3 🅷 Boss Monologues

Bloodborne Micolash Intro

There are some 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:great boss battles out there, 🐻but you know what’s not great? Unskippable monologues before boss battles.

These are the bane of 🍎any gamer’s experience, but long and skippable dialogue before boss battles are the bane of controllers and keyboards alike, which have surely been abused by the constant mashing of buttons to just get through them. Although probably the best skip button of all is the one that lets you press one button to skip the e🐈ntire monologue or cutscene.

2 Quest Di𒉰alogue Durinꦍg Replays

There are some 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:games with great replay value, wel♔l worth playing over and over again, but play a game long enough and you’ll start to get some quest dialogue memorized, especially the ones along the main questline.

Fortunately, in some games you can complete parts of the main quest before characters tell you about them, so instead of skipping through dialogue about where you need to go, you can instead skip through the dialogue of characters wondering in amazement aboℱut how you already got what was needed to💦 continue the main quest.

1 𒉰 𒅌 Repetitive NPC Dialogue

Animal Crossing New Horizons Punchy conversation

Repetitive NPC dialogue is already an annoying occurrence for players who like to talk to every character in games to see if they say anything new or unique, but what makes this worse is when talking to NPCs is made into an objective, such as in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Animal Crossing New Horizons, where you can earn Nook Miles as rewards for talking to all of your villagers mul🐎tiple 🀅days in a row.

New Horizons has been criticized for its repetitive dialogue before, with villagers of the same personality type sharing💃 in the dialogue that they can say, and there are onlyꦏ so many times you can hear a lazy villager talk about the bugs in their walls. Sorry Punchy, your dialogue is getting skipped again until you learn some new conversation topics.
