Alyx Vance. Bil🎶lie Lurk. Miles Morales. Princess Pea🅰ch.
Video games have a long history of taking fan favorite characters and spinning them off for their own adventures. Gordon Freeman's sidekick grabbed a pair of gravity gloves and got up to some VR mischief in 2020's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Half-Life: Alyx. Dunwall's mysterious boat captain got to try her hand with some dark supernatural powers in 2017's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Miles Morales starred in a brilliant and self-contained 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man game in 2020. And Princess Peach… well, maybe we're better off if we don't dwell on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Princess Peach, the DS title where the Mario series' perpetual damsel caused platforming plants to grow with the power of 𓂃her tears.
Regardless of how well executed these spin-offs have been, they give us the opportunity to think about what, if anything, makes a series' prot🦄agonist so special. Below, we've compiled a list of all the supporting characters🦹 who deserve a shot at the spotlight (and might outshine the protagonist if they got it).
8 💝 Bonus: Tommy Miller ♑
*Mild spoilers for The Last of Us Part II*
This one is a bonus because Tommy wouldn't be a better protagonist than Ellie, but his particula꧑r set of skills would be well-suited for a different kind of game that I would also like to play. Joel's brother, who joins Ellie on her trip to Seattle, is what we in the business call a sniper elite. In a mid-game flashback Tommy helps Ellie learn the ins and outs of a long-range rifle, picking off infected from a safe distance. Then, later in the game, Tommy makes a surprise appearance in Abby's storyline, attempting to use the sound of bullets ricocheting off cars and car alarms they trigger to sic zombies on our the game's other heroine.
In the brief bit of information I gave you above, we already have everything we need to start designing a game around Tommy, modeled on IO Interactive's Sniper Assassin maps for the Hitman series. In those levels, Agent 47 must eliminate a set of targets before they escape the level. To do so, he can draw thဣem using sound, shoot them with his sniper rifle, crush them with a falling chandelier, you know, Looney Tunes stuff. A game where players take on the role of Tommy and have to draw zombies to their target could be great fun in single-player or competitive multiplayer.
7 ꦺ Megaera, Alecto, And Tisiphone
Of course, Zagreus is great and the story of Hades is pretty intricately tied up in his role as the son of the God of thౠe Underworld. Plus, it's hard to argue that The Furies would be better in any real objective sense, because they're the first bosses you fight. They're not that tough, by design.
All those caveats aside, it would still be extremely cool to play through Hades as these an🐽ti-heroines𒁃, flying around the battlefield like a bat currently in hell, shooting lighting and fire, and lashing demons with a whip.
6 Ciri
Geralt's adopted daughter figure plays a major role in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with the player stepping into her greaves for various missions. Geralt is a sturdy fighter, to be sure, but Ciri is more nimble, with a cool teꦗleport-dodge she can use to evade enemies. Plus, she doesn't seem nearly as distracted by romance as the perennially horny monster hunter of Rivia, which is a big help for gett🔯ing missions done.
5 Christopher Finch 💜 🥃
If we assume thaꦅt "doing the job better than the main character" involves surviving to the end of the game, Christopher, Edith's son, is the only member of the whole Finch clan who would make a decent video game protago💛nist.
4 🌌 S♕pelunky Dog
Leave the Spelunky Dog alone, and they do just fine. The potential for death only exists for the Spelunky Dog as long as the Spelunky Guy or Spelunky Girl is in the sam💦e level with them. Just let them do dog stuff!
3 Luigi,🅠 Toad, Wario, Princess Peach, Waluigi, Bowser, Boo, Etc.
It really depends on who is playing as Mario and how much Kart experience they're bringing 🎶to the track, but yeah. Mario may hav🐬e his name on the title screen, but he only wins, like, one out of eight times.
2 ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ Kim Kitsuragi ꧒
This one is pretty undeniable (and als💃o, kind of, the point). Kim Kitsuragi is a paragon of responsibility. His partner, and the protagonist of Disco Elysium, Harrier Du Bois, is ♐a nightmare. Though Harrier Du Bois has strange abilities that come from all the conflicting voices rattling around in his head, Kim Kitsuragi is a skilled detective, emotionally stable, and all around, just a pretty good dude. Open and shut.
1 Tom Nook
This is an unfortunate and inevitable result of Tom Nook controlling the means of production. To get anything done in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you ꦦmust work with the greedy raccoon. You purchase a house from Tom Nook, purchase all the tools you will need to work from Tom Nook, and sell the fruits of your labor to Tom Nook. Wouldn't it be easier to succeed if you owned all those things to begin with? Wouldn't it be easier if you were Tom Nook?
