This guide will help you navigate the complex systems of Warframe. Choosing Your First Warframe

Upon booting up Warframe for the first time, you'll get to select between one of three of the game's titular-named Warframes—a suit of armor that acts as this game's class system. The other Warframes may be earned later in the game, so choose the character that looks the most fun to you.

Understanding The Basics
Most third-person shooters are quite slow and encourage the use of cover. Not Warframe. Your survival and overall enjoyment of Warframe will highly depend on how well you understand the basics. Master the game's parkour and modding systems, and you'll be flying through levels as a whirlwind of destruction. Before we get into progression, we need to ensure you understand the basics of Warframe's combat system.
Using Your Weapons
All Tenno have three weapons at their disposal: a primary, secondary, and melee weapon. Your primary and secondary can be swapped between at any time, and doing so is nigh-instant. Press the melee button to perform a melee attack, swapping to your melee instantly. If you want to perform more complex melee attacks, you can hold the melee key to equip your melee weapon. More complex attacks are locked behind Stance mods, combo suites you can equip on melee weapons that match the mod's archetype.
Slain enemies and destroyed crates have a chance of dropping ammo. Melee weapons don't use ammo but accumulate a combo multiplier based on hits delivered. The more hits you land, the higher your combo will be. Your combo affects your melee's damage output and empowers your melee weapon's Heavy Attack. Performing a Heavy Attack—or failing to hit someone within five seconds—resets your combo meter.
Getting Energy
Warframe abilities require Energy to function. Your main source of Energy will come from Energy Orbs, most of which drop from slain enemi♐es. Additional forms of Energy come from the Energy Siphon mod, certain Warframe abilities which generate energy, and certain endgame passive trees.
For newcomers, we suggest breaking any crates you find to find the occasional Energy Orb. We also recommend you get Streamline and Fleeting Expertise as soon as possible, as these mods reduce the Energy cost of ౠusin𝕴g your abilities.
Mastering Parkour
By far the most important tool in your kit is the bullet jump, a parkour maneuver that drastically increases your speed. Perform a crouch jump to corkscrew through the air, granting far more speed than sprinting. You can chain this bullet jump with rolls, slides, and double jumps to move incredibly fast. You should always be bullet jumping when possible.
The other notable parkour move in Warframe is the aim glide. This is effectively Warframe's version of bullet time. Aim while in the air to slow your descent, giving you ample time to land headshots or use an ability. Bullet jump and then aim glide to cover g🎉reat distances.

What To Do After The Tutorial
Once you've completed the "Awakening" and "Vor's Prize" quests, you'll be let loose to do whatever you want. For most players, this is incredibly overwhelming. Warframe has hundreds of missions on the Star Chart, daily and weekly missions, a battle pass system, hundreds of items to chase, and a complex modding system to learn. So where do you start?
Junctions
Junctions are space stations that connect planets on the Star Chart. You likely completed a few during the "Vor's Prize" questline. These Junctions serve as a great way to learn Warframe's core systems and unlock useful rewards. You'll want to complete all nodes leading up to a Junction, finish its listed challenges, then defeat the Specter inside the Junction to unlock a new planet.
Repeat this process until you eventually unlock the entire Star Chart. If a Junction rewards you with a quest, complete it. Warframe's quests always grant a useful reward, ranging from Warframe blueprints to cinematic quests that unlock new progression systems.
Some notable Junctions include:
- Earth -> Mars Junction: Unlocks the Void Relic system and "The Archwing," a quest required to access Archwing nodes.
- Jupiter -> Europa Junction: Unlocks "The New Strange," a quest tied to Warframe's main story.
- Uranus -> Neptune Junction: Unlocks "The Second Dream." Complete this quest to unlock an endgame progression system.
Expand Your Mod Collection
Mods act as your main source of progression in Warframe. These are cards that can be found all across the Star Chart. Inserting these mod cards into your gear will empower them with powerful effects. Mods are not consumed when slott🐟ed; once you own a m🐠od, you have it forever.
New players have hundreds of mods to chase, so we'll recommend a few essential ones:

Replace All Broken Mods: Broken mods are a trap. Get replacements for them ASAP. You can ask players in trade chat for a spare Serration, Continuity, etc.
- The Warframe community is incredibly nice. Most players will give you starter mods for free. Just make sure 2FA is enabled so you can trade.
- Streamline (Warframe): +30% Ability Efficiency. Complete low-level Cetus bounties on Earth to get this mod.
- Elemental Mods (Weapons): +90% Heat, Toxin, Cold, or Electricity damage. Complete Junctions and defeat enemies to get these mods.
- Mobilize (Warframe): +20% Parkour Velocity. Farm Grineer units on Mariana, Earth until they drop the mod.
- Energy Siphon (Warframe): +0.6 Energy per second. Earn Nightwave Creds and purchase it from Nora Night (explained below).

Farm Boss Fights
Nearly every boss in Warframe drops components for new weapons or Warframes when slain. Defeat the boss enough times, and you'll earn all the components necessary to craft new items. If you ever want to expand your arsenal, farm the unique boss on each planet.
If you're new, we highly recommend you farm The Jackal boss fight on Fossa, Venus. This fight will test your parkour skills, introduce you to Parazon finishers, and drop parts for the Rhino Warframe—easily one of the game's best early-game characters. Crafting a Warframe requires a neuroptics, chassis, and systems blueprint. The m🌼ain blueprint for most Warframes (including Rhino) may be purchased from the in-game mar💝ket for 25,000 or 35,000 Credits.
Complete Nightwave Challenges
Nightwave is Warframe's take on a battle pass that's completely free, no premium pass required. Each week, the game will provide ten challenges that grant Nightwave XP when completed. Earn 10,000 Nightwave XP, and you'll progress to the next battle pass rank, unlocking new upgrade materials or exclusive cosmetics. The Nightwave has 30 ranks of rewards and an additional 30 ranks of Nightwave Creds. These Creds may be exchanged for useful upgrade materials, aura mods, and cosmetics in the "Cred Offerings" tab of the Nightwave menu.
We recommend completing as many Nightwave challenges as possible. If you miss a week, completing that week's set of challenges will unlock the previous weekly challenges; there's no FOMO tied to this system. Increasing your Nightwave Rank will grant useful rewards like Warframe and weapon slots, Forma to further enhance your favorite gear, and Nightwave Creds to purchase important upgrades.
Nightwave Cred Offerings
Nora's stock rotates every Sunday. Check back often to see what new mods and cosmetics she's selling. Resources in her shop do not rotate.
Whenever you have Nightwave Creds, purchase the following:
- Orokin Reactor: Install this on your Warframes and companions to double their mod capacity, allowing you to equip far stronger mods.
- Orokin Catalyst: Install this on your weapons to double their mod capacity, allowing you to equip far stronger mods.

Aura Mods: The silver-colored mods Nora Night sells are Aura mods. These mods give mod energy for your Warframe and a passive to your entire team.
- Steel Charge: Grants +9 mod capacity and +60% increased melee damage.
- Energy Siphon: Grants +7 mod capacity and regenerates 0.6 Energy per second.
- Rejuvenation: Grants +7 mod capacity and regenerates 3 HP per second.
Miscellaneous Things You Should Do
We know what we've already listed can feel overwhelming, yet there are so many things new players should know about. We're going to list multiple important tips in this section that you should consider doing.
- Craft Taxon: Taxon is a Sentinel companion you unlock the blueprint for upon completing the Earth -> Venus Junction. Earn enough materials to craft this Sentinel in your foundry. Taxon slows nearby targets, collects loot for you, and can assist in restoring your shields during combat.
- Join A Clan: Clans grant access to a clan dojo and research labs, allowing you craft dozens of new weapons and a handful of Warframes. Visit the Warframe forums or the in-game recruiting chat to find a clan. Once joined, craft a Clan Key in your foundry to gain access to the clan dojo.
- Increase Your Mastery Rank: Leveling items in Warframe will grant progress toward your next Mastery Rank (MR). Upon earning enough XP by leveling items, you'll be able to start a new Mastery Rank test. Complete these tests whenever possible, and level every item you get to level 30. The more items you level up, the more MR progress you'll make.
- Join A Syndicate: When you reach Mastery Rank 3, you'll get to pledge your loyalty to one of six Syndicates. We recommend aligning with Steel Meridian. Any XP you earn will be converted to Syndicate reputation, allowing you to purchase Warframe augment mods, new weapons, and cosmetics.

How To Upgrade Your Gear
At this stage, you likely need to get your hands on some new weapons and mods. Just about anything is an upgrade over your starting gear, but there are some specific recommendations we'll give. Weapon Recommendations
The MK-1 Bo staff is a starter weapon that'll carry you through most of the Star Chart, but the rest of your starter weapons aren't the best. Most weapons in Warframe are crafted, not found. You can find most weapon blueprints from the in-game market. Blueprints cost a small sum of Credits to purchase and reqꦿuire planetary materials to forge.
As for weapons you should craft:
- Mk-I Bo (MR0): For 12,500 Credits, you can get a powerhouse of a melee weapon. Finish the Venus Junction to get a Stance mod for the Bo. This will carry you until you get the Xoris.
- Vectis (MR2): A sniper rifle that deals great damage. Fire, reload, and repeat. Zoom in with the Vectis and land shots to increase your damage with every shot landed.
- Lex (MR3): A secondary hand cannon that hits like a truck. You only need Credits to get this gun.

Warframe Recommendations

When you open the mod menu, there are four as🦋pe🎉cts to consider:
- Mod Capacity: This is the total capacity of your Warframe or weapon. Mods drain capacity, shown on the top-right of the mod card.

Polarity: The symbols in the top-right corner of each mod/mod slot represent a polarity. Slot mod cards in their matching polarity to half the mod's capacity drain, rounded up.
- Mismatched polarities increase the mod's drain by 1.5x.

Warframe builds focus on increasing the character's survivability and ability effectiveness, typically focusing on two of the four listed stats: Ability Strength, Duration, Range, and Efficiency. We recommend using mods like Redirection or Vitality to increase your Warframe's survivability. From there, use mods that increase the Ability Efficiency stat (Streamline and Fleeting Expertise) and either Ability Strength or Range.
For Warframe builds, your goals are:
- Increase your survivability, typically by increasing your HP/shields.

Figure out your method of generating or preserving Energy.
- Increase Ability Efficiency, use Rage/Hunter Adrenaline, or use certain endgame effects.
- Increase that Warframe's most important ability stat: Ability Strength, Range, or Duration.
Weapon builds focus on speccing for base damage, multishot, and combined elements (two elemental mods equipped at once). Depending on the weapon's base stats, you then spec for either status chance or critical effects. Critical hits make your weapons hit harder, and status effects inflict debuffs on targets that provide more damage, crowd control, or more exotic effects.
Most primary weapon builds use Serration, Split Chamber, Infected Clip, and Cryo Rounds. This greatly enhances your damage per shot and causes each hit to deal Viral damage, a status effect that causes the target to take increased damage with each stack. The damage type itself is also highly effective against Flesh, anything that doesn't have shields or armor.
The Best Damage Elements
Most of your weapon's damage output comes from your elemental damage. Grineer are weak to Corrosive (Toxin + Electricity) and Radiation (Heat + Electricity). Corpus are weak to Magnetic (Toxin + Cold) and Toxin. Infested are weak to Viral (Toxin + Cold) and Heat.

For weapons, your goals are:
- Gain base damage.
- Increase your multishot.
- Add two elemental damage mods to create a combined element.
- Spec for crit or status.
