In general, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters is a very well-explained game. Just about every mechanic is broken down and explained in an easy-to-digest manner. Players can then take those lessons and break them in half by making hilariously po✨werful Knights and Squads. Respeccing you Knights, however, is barely even looked at, let alone mentioned.

Respeccing in any RPG is a quality of life inclusion that allows players to freely experiment with builds and loadouts. Chaos Gate - Dae꧋monhunters is, in some ways, no different. Its inclusion opens up the floodgates, but the way it was included, makes it hard to use, let alone abuse.

What Is Respeccing?

Respeccing, in short, is when a game allows you to reallocate your Ability Points. This lets you mess around with different skills and abilities without having to make any of your choices permanent. Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters has this feature, it’s just greyed out for the majority of your playthrough and locked behind a unique resource.

How To Unlock Respec/Commune

To respec your Knights, you need two things - the correct facility, and a hard to come by resource. These are the Stasis Chamber and a dead Grey Knight.

Unlocking The Stasis Chamber

The Stasis Chamber can be unlocked in the Mechanicum once you’ve upgraded your Plasma Reactor with Improved Reactor Output 1. In the Personel Systems tree, you can spend 6 Servitors to start construction. Once 12 days have passed, it will be ready to use.

The Stasis Chamber is pretty much useless without a dead body, however.

Finding Dead Grey Knights

Unfortunately, there is no way to “find” dead Grey Knights, and this is what makes respeccing such a bitter-sweet mechanic in Chaos Gate Daemonhunters. To get your hands on a dead Grey Knight, one of your Grey Knights has to die in battle or during an Intervention scene.

Due to the nature of the game, you don’t want to kill your Knights. They are far too valuable and so you&r🌟squo;ll likely spend your entire 𒁏first playthrough trying to prevent death at all costs.

In short, Respeccing is not something you can spam - it’s more of a mechanic you can dabble with once you mess up ꧙enough times, 💯and lose a Brother.

How To Respec Your Knights

Once you have a Stasis Chamber and a dead Knight, all you have to do is go to the Barracks on the Baleful Edict. From here, select a Knight and go to their Ability screen. At the bottom of the screen is a big blue button with Commune written on it. Press it, and you are met with two ways to Commune. These allow you to gain bonus Ability Points or reallocate existing Ability Points.

Gain Bonus Ability Points

The first option will allow you to gain bonus Ability Points. These are essentially level-ups that let you gain new skills and abilities - you just don’t need EXP to unlock them this time. This lets you unlock more abilities than you otherwise would through natural means, and even lets you make low-level Knights much more powerful than they should be at that stage in their career.

Reallocate Your Ability

The second option is a full respec. You don’t gain any bonus Ability Points, but you do get to respend every single point you’ve invested. This includes both level-based Ability Points, and any Ability Points you have gained through Communion before this. This is perfect for taking a class down a new path, or refining your Knights so they can betꦯter perform any given role.
