Warhammer Age of Sigmar features four parent factions from which you can choose to build an army. Today we are going to take a look at one of these factions, Grand Alliance Order. As the name may suggest, this alliance is made up of those who are united against the enemies of order – the forces of chaos. Outside of this alliance, however, there is an uneasy truce amongst them and it is not unheard of for the fragile peace to be bro🅠ken, often pitting friend against friend.
Cities of Sigmar
The Cities of Sigmar represent the residents of the Mortal Realms. It is a catch-all for many of the former armies of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, all fighting under a single banner. From time to time, Stormcast💝 Eternals may join their mortal cousins in the course of warfare. The residents are mostly human, Aelves (Elves), and Duardin (Dwarves) with each group bringing something unique to the tabletop.
From a rules perspective, each unit is assigned a species keyword with each species broken down into further sub-categories. The combination of these keywords dictates the spells and abilities afforded to the unit allowing diverse play and aligns somewhat to how the units would have been used in Warhammer Fantasy Battle.
Stormcast Eternals
The Stormcast Eternals are Age Of Sigmar’s answer to ’s Space Marines. They are upholders of the law with their authority coming from the Heavenly realm Azyr, the home of the GodKing himself, Sigmar. Each one of thꦚe Eternals is a hero of the mortal realms whose souls were saved at the time of their death. Reforged anew using powerful arcane magic, these soldiers are equipped with weaponry and angel-like armor made from sigmarite, the element that gives the E𓆏ternals their power.
Seraphon
The Seraphon are lizard-like warriors conjured up by the Slann Starmasters when needed. Materializing on the battlefield through beams of starlight, they strike hard and fast, their power coming from the energy of the stars. No one, other than the Starmasters, knows ✅where the Seraphon lives; some observers say it is in ships sailing far above the tallest towers of Sigmaron, while others claim to see them in the patterns of twinkling starlight in the night sky.
Sylvaneth
The children of Alarielle, or the Sylvaneth, are a peaceful nation, forced to bear arms as their lands in The Realm of Life were corrupted by the Chaos Lord Nurgle. They are a forest folk le﷽d by The Noble Spirits, heroes, and lords of Sylva🍎neth past, who protect and preserve the spiritual heritage of the Sylvaneth. They lead their kin into battle and, empowered by the forces of nature, unleash their destructive gifts upon their unsuspecting foes.
Duardin
Prior to the Age of Sigmar, the Duardin were 🎃great in number. Formally known then as Dwarfs, they have retained many of the traits they were famous f🐷or; Short and Strong, afraid of nothing, and highly skilled miners and blacksmiths. And stubborn, let’s not forget about stubbornness.
The Dispossessed
Many of The Dispossessed live alongside Humans and Aelves in the great ci🎐ties of the Eight Realms. Those that don’t have returned to their mountain strongholds. They are ingenious engineers, architects of🐻 steam-powered machines of war that command the battlefield by land and air.
Fyreslayers
Fearless in battle, the Fyreslayers are formidable opponents to even the most battle-hardened. They are the decadents of the God Grimnir and sport archaic runes of ur-gold embedded into their flesh. Their love for ur-gold has led them to offer their services against many a foe. With mighty war screams these soldiers of fortune announce their arrival, wielding heavy over-sized axes that would topple an ordinary Duardin🀅.
Kharadron Overlords
The Kharadorn left their homes in the mountains and took to the skies. In gian෴t airships, they roam, in search of new opportunities to trade. But don’t let the m❀ercantile nature fool you. They are militaristic in nature and are capable warriors in their own right.
Aelves
The Aelves of old were hunted to the brink of extinction by🍎 the Chaos Lord Slaanesh. When Aelven Gods awoke they found few of their kin remaining, having been consumed by the Chaos God Slaanesh. They took action and lured the Chaos God into a trap. Working together th🌟ey began to free the souls of the many Aelves consumed. These were split between the four remaining Aelven Gods who shaped and re-birthed them as new Aelves.
The Free Aelves
The free Aelves reside in many of the great cities of the Eight Realms, with the largest enclave in Azyrheim where they live alongside humans and Duardin🎀. The once-proud race are now refugees and w𝔉hile their numbers are pale in comparison, they are still a dangerous foe, especially if you are unprepared. They can muster enough force to battle on their own, but they are often seen marching into battle alongside their human and Duardin allies.
Idoneth Deepkin
Rising from the depths, The Idoneth Deepkin come to wage war. The defeat of Slaanesh saw their tortured souls released an🍷d they were reborn as the Cythai, loyal and true to their God Teclis. But this was not to last, their souls had been tainted beyond repair and Teclis saw he had no choice but to execute those who survived. It was his brother Tyrion who pleaded that they may live and the Cythai saw their chance and fled to the dark, deep oceans. They discarded their former name and the Idoneth Deepkin were born.
Daughters of Khaine
The Daughters of Khaine are surrounded in secrecy and what small amount is known does little to instill trust with their allies. Yet the Daughters of Khaine despise the Chaos Lords. Worshipers of the war God Khaine, they thirs❀t for battle and will answer the call with an insatiable bloodlust second only to that of their God. For years they remained hidden in the realm of Ulgu, they now flourish♏ and grow in number.
