The Western has always been a genre saturating the world of cinema. The video game landscape has also seen its fair share of games set in the wild west, but not quite to the volume of film. Still, games like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Red Dead Redemption, and Call to Juarez make great cases for the need to ma♛ke more games in൲ this setting.

There are so many, maybe even too many, great western movies to adapt into video games, but the question remains, how do you properly transform such great films into great video games? From their abundance of gritty, realistic characters♉, to their vast, beautiful, and open landscapes, these films create a profound sense of intrigue and excitement and what better way to explore these worlds than through the lens of a sweeping RPG adventure.

10 The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 🌳

Three men stand off facing each other in a large dry deserted graveyard

The third and final film in Sergio Leone’s masterpiece Dollar’s trilogy, The Good, The Bad, and The Ug🌟ly was a fittingly epic finale, and a movie that begs for adaptation to the virtual world.

With a sweeping narrative that travels all across the wild west, Leone’s film would not only be a visually stunning open world, but one filled with larger than life personalities like the three titular characters. In particular, the infamous man with no name, as portrayed by Clint Eastwood, would fit in alongside the stone-cold loners of modern RPGs such as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Geralt of Rivia or even Kratos.

9 The Alamo

Due perhaps to respect for those fallen, The siege of Alamo may not see video game adaptation, but the John Wayne ꦡdirected film sure makes a great case for how to respectfully honor the near mythological individuals involved in the historical event.

Expertly portraying the frontier legends present at the battle at Alamo, the film demonstrates just how storybook-like the incident was. Should there ever be a game made, a tactical RPG in the vein of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fire Emblem would help to perfectly tell the story and pay tribute to each individual involved 🦩in the historical event.

8 True Grit

With two s♐tellar movies, one starring John Wayne, and the other starring Jeff Bridges, True Grit is a tale that has been told numerous times. A young character’s loved ones are murdered, and they hire the help of a capable lawma♔n or assassin to help.

It may be a story that has played out hundreds of time in various media, but with a character as iconic as Rooster Cogburn, True Grit sets itself apart as a potential franchise just waiting to be continued. What better way to tell the True Grit story by turning it into a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Witcher 3 style game rich with bounties to collect, people to help, horses to ride, 𒆙and companions to hire.

7 Shena𒁏ndoah

Shenandoah is a powerful film about family and about the ramifications of war. Widower Charlie Anderson, played by the 🗹legendary Jimmy Stewart, is firmly against the Civil War taking place at the time, but is ultimately forced to become involved when his youngest son is abducted by the Union.

Another great western with a sprawling story that crosses the American west, Shenan꧅doah would lend itself well to the RPG genre with sheer story and exploration alone. Add to that Stewart’s character, along with his older sons, constantly embroiled in battles with Union soldiers and outlaws all along the journey, and you have a perfect framework for random encounters.

6 💟 ꧂ The Cowboys

The Cowboys tells the story of Wil Anderson and a 400-mile cattle drive. Without the necessary help of capable workers, Anderson ends up hiring a rag tag group of young school boys to help in the laborious undertaking. With all the challenges of wrangling cattle, a huge cast of characters, and a lengthy journey, The Cowboys would benefit from the RPG tr♐eatment on many levels.

As great of a job as the movie does, it would be awesome to have the freedom to get to know characters more intimately through RPG style dialogue chains. We’ve also yet to see someone capture the true challenge of a cattle drive in video game form, and if you thought 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Death Stranding was a demanding challenge, you’ve probably never dealt with wrangling ca💃ttle.

5 T🌄he Magnificent 7

Akira Kurosawa’s 7 Samurai has inspired many adaptations both in film and video games. The most significant of th🐻ese inspirations was the Western adaption, The Magnificent 7. Featuring an ensemble cast, The Magnificent 7 tells the story of a group of ace gunmen helping to defend a town against would-be bandits.

As with many video games based on the 7 Samurai film, one baseඣd on the Western interpretation, whether drawing more from the 1960 or the 2016 film, would be just as good if no🍌t better. Having a party of seven characters to cycle through in either a traditional RPG or even a tactical RPG would create a wealth of variety and player agency, allowing for multiple play styles.

4 Tombstone

4 men in long black coats wearing cowboy hats at mustaches

Much like the Alamo, the real life exploits of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday have become the stuff of legends. Tombstone, starring Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Bill Paxton, and Sam Elliot, captures a portion of the incredible adventur💧es of Wyatt Earp and does so in a stylish and imaginative way.

Tombstone would make a great RPG for many reasons, but of most significance would be the abundance of outlaws of the old west Earp and his posse rounded up. These kinds of quests would take a ღplayer 🍎to many real world old west locations and would give an open world style RPG a lived in feeling from the true to life source material.

3 𒅌 Once Upon A Time in The West ♉

What many consider to be the best western of all time, Once Upon A Time In The West features all the in👍gredients of a great RPG story.

A wide open world plagued with issues that, by necessity, bring the characters together. A strong, silent protagonist, whose mystery and intrigue make you want to keep watching. A comic relief character whose rough around the edges who wins your heart in the end, and a villain you love to hate, and hate to love. No doubt, the film has inspired many stories 🌸and games𒅌 since release, it makes all the more sense to turn it into an RPG.

2 🌠 Th🎉e Adventures of Brisco County Jr.

Two men riding in a motorcycle with a side car and another picture of a cowboy riding a rocket ship

It's a crime that so many great franchises starring Bruce Campbell get canceled before they have a chance to flourish. The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. is one such example. A western themed story with a twist, the show added elements of fantasy and science fiction, giving it a steampunk feel and setting it apart from other shows of its kind.

The show was canceled after only 27 episodes, but much like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Campbell and the Evil Dead franchise, the show had a devoted following. It&🌌rsquo;s years later and although the cast has grown older, a video game RPG adaptation would allow for much more explorat🍒ion of the world, story, and characters of Brisco County Jr. that so many fans long for.

1 Have Gun Will Travel 💙

If you have yet to watch the classic western television show Have Gun Will Travel, it's worth your time. Upon watching, it won’t take long for you to recognize why Have Gun Will Travel, and specifically its main character, would translate well into an RPG, particularly RPGs like the Witcher 3 or 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Cyberpunk 2077.

The main character, a gentleman gun for hire known only as Paladin, has a style and grace befitting your typical shonen Manga protagonist. As a mercenary with a wide array of elite skills and intellect that could be put into branching skill trees, Paladin, and the world of Have Gun Will Travel could be the next great piece of source material for someone like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:CD Projekt Red.
