We unvei✱l the most underrated DC villains you've been missing out on.
One of the most interesting things about the Suicide Squad is they aren&rs꧃quo;t a team with defined members. Now, that is often the case with super groups in comics, but the Suicide Squad has a lot more member fluctuations than the likes of the Justice League. So, that might make you wonder who was in the original crew and when were they created. All of that information is here.
When Was The First Suicide Squad Created
The first version of the Suicide Squad was created all the way back in the 1950s. They made their first appearance in 1959’s Brave and The Bold Volume One, Issue 25.
It’s fair to say they are quite a bit different from the more modern versions of the team. For starters, they aren’t a group of supervillains being controlled by the government. They work for the military. And the reason they’re called a Suicide Squad is because they’re willing to risk their lives to protect humanity.
So, the members of the team aren’t the usual rogues. Instead, the crew includes Astro Physicist Hugh Evans, Nuclear Physiౠcist Jess Bright, and Combat Medic Karen Grace. They’re joined by Rick Flag Jr, who serves as the leader of the team. So, the inclusion of Rick Flag is pretty much the one thing about the crew that resembles more modern versions.
When Was The Supervillain Version Of The Squad Created
The more modern and well-known version of the Suicide Squad first appeared in 1987's Legends Volume One, Issue 3. They are a team created and run by the Government. More specifically, they are Amanda Waller's team.
Once again, Rick Flag serves as a member, and Enchantress, Bronze Tiger, Blockbuster, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot join him. Unlike the original crew, these all have special powers or, at least, exceptional abilities.
Blockbuster has super strength, Bronze Tiger is an incredible martial artist, C♏aptain Boomerang is very talented with a boomerang෴, Deadshot is an expert sharpshooter, and Enchantress is a powerful magic user.
They also differ from the first group in regard to their morality. These people aren't just risking their lives to protect the world. They have all agreed to be part of the team to get something in return.
Boomerang and Deadshot are doing so in exchange for prison release. Because of this, Waller has them fitted with explosive bracelets to di🍸scourage them from escaping.
It's later revealed that Enchantress requires Waller's help to control her evil side, and Bronze Tiger wants her to help him regain his memories. As for Rick Flag, he doesn't need to be bribed to join the team, and Blockbuster's reason for joining isn't revealed.
This team would pretty much serve as a blueprint for the future Suicide Squads.
