Video game release dates have become pretty fluid over the past decade or so. They're more rough estimates than fixed points in time these days, and that's absolutely fine. In fact, it's better than fine. I welcome it. As a few heavy hitters have proved recently, it's better to push a game's launch multiple times than offer it up to the world in an unfinished state. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Cyberpunk 2077 shows how badly things can go if you stick to a date in the calendar (even after multiple delays), and the decision to launch the game in the state it was should serve as a warning to not only 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:CD Projekt Red but every o🅠ther developer with something in the pipeline.
Bethesda may well have looked at what happened to Cyberpunk and decided that can't happen to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Starfield. The ambitious space RPG has had its launch window pushed a number of times, from 2022 into the first half of 2023, and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:from there to September 6 of this yea💞r. Finally, a firm date on which to expect Starfield's long-awaited arrival. That was until T♔ony Todd started saying things about Spider-Man 2. Even though the web-slinging sequel only has a vague “fall 2023&rdqu꧂o; launch window, the Venom voice actor claims it'll be here in September.
Starfield's launch date means it may now face the daunting task of going up against 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man 2. A lot of people are excited about Bethesda's next big project, but 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Insomniac's wall-crawler games are an established series, based on the most famous superhero in the world, buoyed by the hugely successful first game but also its 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Miles Morales spin-off. Insomniac bumping its Spidey sequel to later in the year has been suggested since it was hinted the two may launch together. However, I don't really understand why both Starfield and Spider-Man 2 can't share the same launch window.
Starfield will be an Xbox exclusive, and Spider-Man 2 will be a PS5-only title. Not only two different platforms, but two rival ones. While it would be nice to have both an 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Xbox Series X|S and a PS5 so we can all play both games later this year, the reality is very few people have one of each. In fact, I would hazard to guess so few people own both that launching Starfield and Spider-Man 2 at the same time wouldn't affect the success of either title. If one of these games were launching on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Nintendo Switch, I might think a little differently. While very few people own a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:PlayStation and an Xbox console, a lot more own one or the other and a Switch simply because the latte♚r offers a🌟n entirely different way to play games.
On top of Starfield and Spider-Man 2 effectively being pitched to two entirely different audiences, the former will be available on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Game Pass day one. That means even the hardcore gamers who have access to both platforms won't need to make a tough decision in September regarding which game they want to spend $70 on. Starfield will be ready to go whenever they like at no additional cost, and if they want to play Spider-Man 2, Starfield won't impact their budgeting.
On top of all that, Starfield being on Game Pass means trying to compare its sales with Spider-Man 2 will be pointless. Starfield's sales will be a lot lower than the new Spidey game because a large chunk of people venturing into space with Bethesda won't need to buy the game. Some people won't have the consoles to play both, those who do won't have to pay $140, and there shouldn't be any devs worrying whether they did the right thing after the fact since sales numbers can't be compared, so what's the problem?
I firmly believe both games can launch in close proximity to one another, but I do acknowledge that there is one issue. Starfield and Spider-Man 2 are arguably the biggest games launching for Xbox and PlayStation respectively in 2023. Both Bethesda and Insomniac will want the gaming world talking about their game and nothing else for a few weeks at least after each of them launches. Therein lies a potential argument against both games launching in September as the attention of the gaming world will be very much split, and with no real sales numbers to compare, that might be the first metric on which the games are judged. I'm also acutely aware many of the hard-working guide writers I work with will read all this and hate me forever.
Perhaps my outlook on all of this is a somewhat selfish one. I don't own an Xbox, and I'm a huge fan of the Spider-Man games. I don't want that space game you're all clamoring for to delay my superhero fix, but I also don't want to see Spidey step aside. I do truly think both games can launch in the same month and neither will be negatively affected by it, though. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Horizon Forbidden West and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Elden Ring launched a week apa🐼rt in 2022 and they both did alright, and neither of those games had the benefit of launchi🦋ng on Game Pass.
