For example, its successor Skyrim, while a truly phenomenal game, is a starkly different kettle of fish. It appeals to a whole differ🔯ent craving - one for power, victory, and becoming a big ol' hardened badass able to harness elements of an incredibly harsh, unforgiving land.
Oblivion, on the other hand, just feels warmer (even around Bruma), with its mostly serene pastur🅷al landscapes and buttery visua🍸ls. Obviously, the hostile planes of Oblivion itself are anything but comforting, but they serve to enhance that balmy solace felt each time you close one of its gate and get whooshed back to Cyrodiil. It's an addictive feeling.
The Modding Community
An incredible modding community is hardly a commendation unique to Oblivion, but is absolutely worth mentioning because of how indicative it is of a community of fans whose dedication and love for the game runs deep. Those aspects which many would agree haven't aged too fabulously can now be overhauled, graphics can be enhanced, and fans can even expect a complete porting of Oblivion's Cyrodiil into Skyrim thanks to the fan-led modding initiative .
