The Wii U was full of a lot of bad decisions from Nintendo. Above all, it seemed that it was trying to recapture the success of the Wii by appealing to the casual audience yet again. Unfortunately, this led to messaging that was🌺 confusing, prompting some to think it was just an add-on for the Wii, while others felt it was a machine solely for children.

Time would prove that the Wii U had great potential. There were some great games that released on it as well, including Super Smash Bros for Wii U, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, and Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze. However, for every game that got rave reviews and was loved by the community, there were others that wer🦄en’t so good.

There were several games made by Nintendo and other companies that ⛄just weren’t good. They were glitchy nails in the coffin of the Wii U. It was those releases that further motivated people to just stick with other consoles. However, the state the Wii U was in led to another problem regarding their games: many of them didn’t get the credit they deserved.

Many other games were inveಌntive and new, but didn’t get a lot of attention due to being on the 🎉Wii U. Furthermore, there were some that were effectively panned by critics, but didn’t quite get their fair shot in the process.

With that said, we’re looking at 15 of the worst Wii U games and 15 underrateꦏd gems that deserve a second chance.

30 Worst: Animal Crossing:🔯 Amiibo Fe🧸stival

Talking about this game is like beating a deceased horse. Instead of a next-gen Animal Crossing game on the Wii U, Nintendo decided to throw out a Mario Party clone without mini-games that had to use Amiibo to work. It looked nice, but it was an overall dull and un-fun adventure that put the “bored” in board game. Even the fans who weren’t clamoring for a proper Animal Crossing game felt disgusted by whatever Amiibo Festival was trying to be.

29 Underrated: Star Fox: Zero ▨

maxresdefault

Making the next big Star Fox game a remake of Star Fox 64 wasn’t a great move, but the game also received poor reviews. As it stands, it’s far from a beloved game on the Wii U. The unfortunate part is that the game isn’t that bad. The unique controls can create some truly great moment﷽s, and the boss battles are extremely entertaining. The game makes great use of the GamePad with the multiple configurations of the Arwing as well.

28 Worst: M🧔ario P💦arty 10

In a one-two punch, Nintendo released two of its worst party games on the Wii U. It was a shame that, after the criticism of Mario Party 9, Nintendo seemed to ignore all of it with Mario Party 10. Not only did the car return, but the AI was broken, and the Bowser Party mode was horribly unbalanced. There was also an Amiibo mode that was every bit as shameless as Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival. The mini-games were also hit or miss.

27 𒀰 Underrated: Nintendo Land

When it launched, the Wii U struggled to gain a lot of attention without any major games. The best of the bunch, though, was easily Nintendo Land. Not only was it an example of what could be done with the GamePad, but it was also a game that had a lot of creativity and passion put into it. Most of its various mini-games were slam dunks, being both exciting and fun. It’s a shame that more people paid more attention to Wii Sports.

26 Worst: Devil’s Third 🍸 🐻

Devil’s Third was an interesting game before its release. Being a more mature action and shooter game, a lot of people were intrigued by what it could mean for the Wii U and Nintendo as a whole. After being stuck in development for many years, Devil’s Third was finally released and was a major disappoint🍌ment across the board. The game was littered with technical issues and poor controls, which led to most discarding it from their wish lists💜.

25 𒀰 Underrated: Sonic: Lost World

There are people that claim Sonic: Lost World is somehow the worst Sonic game since Sonic ’06. To immediately discard this game is to sell it short. There are some clever levels in Sonic: Lost World, and the controls are interesting. It makes great use of speed while throwing new environments into the mix. The story is a bit bland, but just controlling Sonic is fun enough to warrant a purchase at a low price. It’s far from the dumpster fire peop♊le make it out to be.

24 ♐ Worst: Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric ꦡ

When SEGA announced that they were rebooting the Sonic franchise in the form of Sonic Boom, fans were skeptical. Perhaps the upcoming action game, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, would prove them wrong. Unfortunately for SEGA, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was perhaps even worse than Sonic ’06. It was glitchy, suffered from several framerate drops, and didn’t even have the stellar music that the series was known for at the time. SEGA didn’t stick with Sonic Boom for very long.

23 Underrated: Super Mario 3D World 🎉 ൩

Super Mario 3D World got great ratings, but there were many that thought it wasn’t great. This is because most wanted a proper 3D sandbox Mario game like Super Mario 64. While a game like Super Mario Odyssey is clearly better, that’s not to say that Super Mario 3D World is bad. It had great level design and fun new power-ups throughout the adventure. The environments were okay at best, but the t♑ight platformi✅ng was just as good as it had ever been.

22 𝓀 Worst: Meme Run

Take one look at Meme Run, and you’ll know exactly why it’s on this list. Memes themselves are full of nonsensical humor that isn’t well-structured or thought out, and that philosophy bleeds over into Meme Run. The game makes no sense and tries🔥 to pride itself on the cacophony of ridiculous references to obscure internet humor. Take all that stuff away, and what you’re left with is a subpar endless runner with little passion or care in its basic design.

21 🔥 Underrated: ZombiU ꦰ

ubisoft

ZombiU was a launch title for the Wii U and, despite the reluctance from consumers to pay any attention to it, managed to be a good game. As a matter of fact, it was a survival horror game that made great use of the GamePad. Not only was there great challenge, but inventory management was probably the best out of most AAA games. Unfortunately, the presentation behind ZombiU wasn’t enough for people to go out and buy Nintendo’s🦹 new system.
