How To Level Classic Mining
Leveling Classic Mining will take you all the way up to Level 275, and can be considered the longest and most difficult stretch of grinding. You have a couple of options in terms of leveling route, as if you have enough Gold, you can simply buy the ore off the Auction House and Smelt it in into bars. The amounts of these bars may vary slightly depending on your skill point luck, and you may end up having to spend slightly more or less gold than originally intended. Most of this ore should be fairly cheap on the majority of servers, although the rough section will probably be the Mithril Ore. Due to you needing vast amounts of the stuff, its price is normally pretty high, so going out and farming it yourself can be a great option.
If you instead wish to gather the ore manually, you will be able to double-dip on Mining skill, as you will often gain one from the Ore Node, and can then Smelt it for another.

How To Level The Burning Crusade Mining
Once your progress to level 300, you will be able to learn how to mine and smelt Fel Iron. This means you can progress into Outland, and begin mining higher level TBC ore. Journey to Hellfire Peninsula and visit Hurnak Grimmord in Honor Hold for the Alliance, or Kurgosh in Thrallmar if you are Horde to learn Outland Mining. You should look out for the following ores:

How To Level Wrath Of The Lich King Mining
Once you have reached level 350, you can abandon Outland and sail to Northrend to finally begin mining current expansion ore. You should be able to sell this for a good price, especially in the early stages, and remember to keep hold of any gems or crafting reagents you come across, such as Crystallized Earth. Various WotLK zones provide a healthy number of deposits, so you can freely explore to find your best route.
