Preparation For Ai Nengqi

The General of the North, Ai Nengqi is a powerful enemy, though far from impossible. He is fast, but this is mainly in his ability to relocate himself around the battlefield. When he is right in front of you performing attacks, he is significantly more managable and his animation tells became much slower and more readable.

Thankfully, you also have access to an ally in this fight if you've been progressing their story up to this point. Nian Suichang will appear outside the battle arena where Ai Nengqi is fought, and can be summoned by using the Bone Whistle. So equip this to your quick slots of ites if you plan on callin him to assist in the fight. He's not particularly strong, but he is excellꦬent at drawing Ai Nengqi's attention away from you.

Nengqi also has access to a wide variety of elements, and can cause Frostbite, Burn, and Paralysis build-up. As such, try to buff up these resistances in advance. If you're good at dodging it won't be to🔯o much of an issue, though if any of them do manage to fill up, it can make the fight much harder. A moderate degree of resistance in all of them will be more than enough.

Ai Nengqi also alternates between Spells, weapon attacks, and martial attacks such as punches and kicks quite frequently, so it can be hard to rely on the likes of Deflection to ꦚwear him down. That said, because he has fairly long animations and rest periods after some attacks, slower weapons can still be quite helpful here, especially if you take advantage of the blocking mechanic.

Ai Nengqi's Strengths And Weaknesses

When you entered the field to fight the leader of the rebels, you likely did not expect such a giant of the game. Clearly partially through the process of Feathering, Ai Nengqi is far from purely human at this point, being a giant of a man. And that means no matter how much you deflect or counter him, you will not be staggering him. Your only option is to fully Stance Break him.

Being a resourceful rebel leader, Ai Nengqi also has access to a litany of techniques and weapons. He can punch and kick and slash aplenty with his massive sword, covering the gamut of damage types, meaning you must come with a bit of defence against everything. He also has access to various status effects, namely Frostbite and Paralysis, though he also gains access to Burn in his second phase. As such, h🌳e has a resistance to these three status ef𝓰fects as well.

On the flip side, he has a weakness to just about every other status effect. Corruption and Blight are very effective means of whittling down his HP, and Poise Break can be immensely helpful in forcing him to stop moving for a few seconds and helping fill up hisꦅ stagger meter. If you don't have access to any Spells or Skill with these status effects, you can also find them in the Impetus Repository for use in Tempering.

If you do choose to use Spells however, use those with Alacrity, such as the Echo of Lu Bingzhang. Ai Nengqi has very noticeable tells, making it much easier to pull off Alacrity while giving yourself distance from him.

General Of The North - Ai Nengqi's Moveset

Ai nengqi has two phases, though the second is more of an expansion of the first phase rat♏her than a wholly unique one. Here are all of his m🐼oves:

As you can see from the above, he relies much more heavily on status effects in his second phase, and picks up the pace more in general. That said, he does still attack slow enough in some combos, giving you ample time to dodge to gain Skyborn Might, or even jus♎t get some distance to heal.

How To Beat General Of The North - Ai Nengqi

The Battle

Ai nengqi is deceptively fast for his size, though this mainly applies to moving away from or closer to you, with his actual attacks coming out much slower. This means as long as you can keep pace with him moving, avoiding his attacks is the easy part.

The arena itself is massive, and this is primarily so Nengqi can move around. His arrows are the hardest attack to avoid by far as getting the timing right on when they are fired is the hardest to pin down. For the most part th𓆏ough, as long as you get the dodge timing down, it's mainly down to just whittling him down.

What makes Nengqi much easier is the use of status effects against him. Corruption is helpful for slowing whittling his HP down, though you might have better luck with Poise Break since once it's applied, it will stun him for a few seconds, giving you time to get a few more hits in.

And don't forget that you can summon Nian, too. While he is rather weak and has low HP, he is very good for distracting the boss. As such, try to summon him later in the fight so he can grabꦆ the ꦿboss' attention after you've been worn down.

The Rewards

After Ai Nengqi lies defeated, you are given four rewards - the Seven Treasure Rosary, which can be given to Tao Qing back in the Shu Sanctum to unlock new items for purchase. The Echo of Ai Nengqi Spell, which allows you to use an electric bow just like the rebel leader, which fires an arc of arrows that deal damage on hit, and then explode a few seconds later. You are also given his Longsword, Flamebringer. Finally, you are given a White Jade Dumpling.

Since Ai Nengqi is an entirely optional boss, main story progression is completely unaffected by his defeat. However, it does serve to advance Nian Suichang's personal storyline.
