Preparation For Huang Yan
While it took quite a bit of effort to reach Snowfall Palace itself, the area is actually quite small. In fact, you can reach Huang Yan herself and complete the area all the while passing just a single enemy. You may want to explore the upper areas of Sn🌌owfall Palace first for some extra items and Spells, in case you find them of extra help when battling Huang Yan.
There is actually a secret area beneath the elevator in the main Snowfall Palace. Just let 🎃the elevator travel upwards without you for another that appears that brings you downwards. There will be a new One-Handed Sword down here that may help against Huang Yan.
Huang Yan is a very fast character, and does not have a single attack that can be blocked or deflected. As such, it's better to rely on faster weapons, or those with a bit more reach. Your best bet for dealing physical damage to Huang Yan will be by breaking her stance with Charged Heavy attacks from behind. To this end, the Longsword has a very quick Charged Heavy, especially when paired with the Steel Resolve perk.
With how fast Huang Yan is, we find that Spells are the real showstopper against her since it can be hard to consistently land attacks on her. She can also deal both Corruption with her Spells, and Frostbite with her physical attacks, so bring defences against both of these. Shimmer will be your primary means of gaining Skyborn Might in this battle, though Biding Time with One-Ha☂nded Swords can be a great help too if you manage to land a few hits.
Finally, like with most fights, we recommend getting the Alacrity ability in the Impetus Repository and pair it with a Spell like Burning Flames or Echo of Lu Bingzhang. 🧔This lets you use some Spells to dodge an attack at the last second and gain a single Skyborn Might at the sa🐈me time.
Huang Yan's Strengths And Weaknesses
Huang Yan is fast, but also keeps her distance from you at all times. For the most part, she doesn't have a ♐typical melee combo that she does when you are close to her, as the vast majority of her moves are designed to be used at a distance. All of the physical attacks she does have can close the distance between you both in an instant, so it's essential to alwꦫays keep your eyes on her.
Burn and Fire can deal good damage to her, though she is quite resistant to both Blight and Corruption, so you'll have a hard time whittling down her HP slowly through them. She is also quite resistant to Frostbite, so it's really not worth bringing that at all.
That said, she has an interesting quirk. She can deflect your attacks, and will almost always follow up with a melee attack to counter you afterwards, which is a great opportunity to dodge for some Skyborn Might, and hit her with a Charged Heavy from beh🐼ind to open her up for an Obliterate attack.
Otherwise, she doesn't have any particular strengths or weaknesses to worry about. Just make sure to bring plenty of ranged Spells to counter her at a distance, and at𒁃tack her from behind every chance you get.

This attack's main intent is to disღtract you. However, the spirits have a very small hitbox and are unlikely to hit you even if you were standing still, so try not to worry a🦄bout them at all. You'll be fine as long as you're moving.
Lamp Spirits
Huang Yan shakes her lamp, sending ꦡpurple orbs out from it 🐠that explode after a few seconds. Can do this twice in a row.
The spirits aren't too difficult 🎉to avoid as they don't travel far or have any tracking. Howeve🧜r, this attack can instantly kill you if you're standing in front of Huang Yan when it's cast. This is why you should never attack her directly from the front.
Insect Orb
Huang Yan summons a giant purple o🌌rb of insects that follows you and also sends out additional smaller purple projectiles to attack you.🐲 Cause Corruption on hit.
This is a very powerful attack, and one that can't be canceled. Keep your distan♛ce from it and it will disappear after a few seconds. Because it is slow, you can also continually dodge it to get some Skyborn Might.
Spinning Kicks
Huang Yan does a series of graceful, spinning kicks as she closes the distancꦕe on you.
She will always smoke fromher pipe before a melee attack, giving you 🎀time to get close and dodge the attack to get behind her. With Spinning Kicks, it only hits by the very end of the attack, so try not to dodge too early.
Forceful Kicks
Huang Yan does a single powerful kick that can travel a far distance, and then ends with slam attack🧔 that causes a Frostbite burst.
Like Spinning Kicks, she will smoke from her pipe before this attack. This one travels farther, so you can stay in place and do☂dge ⛄instead once it comes close to get behind her.
Ice Breath
Huang Yan♐ blows into her lamp, causing trail of ice that deals Frostbite and knocks you back if hit.
This has a fairly short range and takes a few seconds to complete💜, giving you time to get behind Huang Yan and potentially get off a Charged Heavy, instantly breaking her stance.

Like the regular Bookshelf Spirits, but with many many flying at a faster speed, and Huang Yan will attack more aggres🍸sively d🉐uring it.
Like before, you shouldn't focus on the books too much bec♕ause they are🍸 mainly there to distract you from Huang Yan's attacks.
Fox Dash
Huang Yan will turn into a serpentine Fox, the one she was wearing around her neck, and dash across the arena𝔉 in your direction. Is typically performed 3-4 times in a row.
This attꦿack is pulled off very quickly and has incredible tracking, so you have to dodge if you want to avoid getting hit. As soon as you see any movement from her fox form, dodge immediately.
Fox Slam
Huang Yan in her fox form will dive headfirst into the groไund, causing a Frostbite burst. She typically follows up with a melee combo.
Like Fox Dash, d🐟odge as soon as you see movement in her fox form, and then be prepared to ddge any follow up attack sh🙈e will perform.
In addition to all this, Huang Yan can also teleport around the battlefield, or slide a🔥way on ice to avoid your attacks. This really does mean the only consistent ways of attacking her 👍are with Spells at a distance, or by unleashing attacks from behind.
How To Beat Mistress Of The Night - Huang Yan
The Battle
The battle against Huang Yan will begin the second you enter the arena, and her opener will always be one of two moves. She will either teleport behind you and start unleashing a melee combo, or she will summon Bookshelf Spirits to fly about the arena. For you though, there is one essential thing to keep in mind - always keep locked-on to Huang Yan.
Even after she teleports, the camera will stay locked to her so you don't have to worry about tracking her down and potentially getting kicked in the bac𓆉k or caught off-guard by her Lamp Spirits. She will do this periodically throughout the fight to reposition, so try to always keep somewhat close to her, but never right in front.
Alacrity is a great way of avoiding her melee combos as she has no ranged or melee attacks that can follow you that quickly. Because Huang Yan likes to keep her distance, this also means you are free to use your own Spells at a distance and not worry about her quick retaliations. However, because of this distance, it can make it hard to keep your Skyborn Might up. This is why you still need to get close and dodge her attacks at times rather than just playing it safe at a distance.
Once she enters her second phase, she becomes more aggressive, though outside of her fox transformations, her moves remain identical. Therefore, outside of learning how to dodge the꧋ fox attacks, you can continue as you already were, and you should have her beat i🏅n no time.
The Rewards
After you finally relieve the mistress of her life and duties, you are given three rewards - The Shell Cup, which can be given to Tao Qing to unlock Huang Yan's armor for yourself. Next is the Research Journal - Scrap 1, which is a key item you can later show to He Youzai. Finally, you get the Echo of Huang Yan, a Spell tha𝔍t summons the same purple cloud of insects she used during෴ her boss fight.
You can now proceed forward into The Shaft, and see the faith of the bride that Huang Yan prepared𒁃 for her son.
