The most exciting gaming announcement from the Meta Connect Keynote this week was presented as an afterthought. In fact, if you tuned out after the brief gaming segment you would have missed this news completely. Towards the end of the showcase during the reveal that Microsoft Teams and Office 365 are coming to the Quest Pro, Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella also revealed that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is coming to the Quest store, date TBC. This should be a bꦅig deal for budget gamers and frequent travelers alike. Not because you don’t need an Xbox anymore, but because you don’t need a screen.
I fall into the frequent traveler camp, so I’m excited at the possibilities that Game Pass in VR will open up for me. Right now I have two options for Game Pass on the Go: Game Pass mobile or Game Pass for PC via laptop. Both options have worked fairly well for me, though with significant trade-offs. Try as I might to enjoy Game Pass on my Pixel 6 (with the help of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Razer Kishi 2) I just can’t get into console games on such a tiny screen. I play a lot of mobile games like Pokemon Unite and Marvel Snap, but it just doesn’t feel right pla🔥ying Deathloop or Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on a six inch display. The laptop is bigger, but Game Pass PC streaming is still in beta and a little rough around the edges. Also, after a long day of working on my laptop, I’m not keen to jump right into a game on the same screen.
Game Pass on the Quest 2 would solve all of these problems while offering a more immersive experience than most home theater setups. I’ve said before that the Quest 2 is incredible for watching movies, and playing 2D gameꦫs should be no different. Having the ability to scale up your screen to movie theater size while staring up at your ceiling is an uncanny experience, and I can’t wait to replay some of my favorite games in this new format. Portable cinema glasses seem to be the next big thing in wearable tech, but the Quest 2 has a leg-up on the competition, being that it’s also a Quest 2.
I’m not as enthused about the metaverse as Meta would like me to be, but I do like the idea of the Quest 2 becoming an all-in-one console. The unfortunate recent price hi🃏ke puts it at an equal price to an Xbox Series S, but you’re also getting a portable screen, a smart device for streaming and web browsing, and of course, a VR headset. If I had to choose between an Xbox or a Quest 2 with Game Pass, I’d choose the Quest 2 every time.
I’m a big fan of portable devices that make g🎉aming more flexible. My Switch and Steam Deck get a lot of use even when I’m just at home because I can play it in bed and in the bathtub, I can spend time with my partner while she watches TV, and I can game while I catch some sun on the patio. With just a Quest 2 and an Xbox controller, you’ll soon be able to do all of that while fully immersed in a 20-foot screen. That’s enough to get me to leave behind my Steam Deck on my next trip, provided I’m headed somewhere with decent Wi-Fi.
