Indie games have in recent years skyrocketed in popularity. In the early days of the Xbox 360, a few gems would shine through, but many other ones were either forgotten or not given any attention. Wit♍h the Xbox One era, however, indie games in some ca𓆏ses grew to be larger than triple-A ones.
Thanks to Microsoft's incorporation of indie games, many amazing titles are now available on the Xbox One. From old classics to modern masterpieces, there's a little bit of everything when it comes to indie games. Despite the lack of support from major publishers, indie games have delivered some of the best games of this generation.

With Game Pass becoming more popular each day as a way to have access to a giant library, more indie games have been added to the service. This allows plenty of fantastic indie games to become playable rather easily, giving you more ways to play these fantastic games. Xbox One has become one of the biggest homes for indie games, with PC one of the few places giving it a run for its money. There is a giant pool of indie games available on the Xbox One, and there's been plenty of new fantastic ones added with Microsoft showing no signs of slowing down on indie game support.
15 Gunfire Reborn 𓄧
Gunfire Reborn is a first-person roguelike shooter𒐪 where you play as an anthropomorphic animal, all with different abilities. As with many roguelikes, each run is never the same with a large arsenal of different weapons available for you to grab and use. There is a large progression tree that you can go down, allowing for a ton of replayability to make the grind toward unlocking new characters and skills feel rewarding.
The game is available on Game Pass, allowing you to give it a shot before committing to a purchase. It's a beautiful-looking game that's as fun to play as it is to look at.
14 Deep Rock Galactic 😼
Deep Rock Galactic is a game where you and a team enter caves and go on mining expeditions while keeping bugs and robots alike at bay. It comes with multiple playable characters, each excelling at different tasks helpful in a run such as one great at movin🃏g around landscapes or lighting up dark parts of the cave.
Deep Rock Galactic is available on Game Pass for gamers to give it a shot. It's a more relaxing roguelike, and very fun to hop on with friends and do some mining. The game offers a turn of progression, making for a game with a ton of longevity.
13 Hades

It's a top-down view game, with a hack-and-slash fighting system. The mechanics are easy to understand, but hard to master. The gameplay loop is incredibly fun, making for a fantastic game.
Although the game is not currently on Game Pass, Hades is more than worth the price ofꦇ admission. It is not just ౠone of the best indie games of 2018, it was one of the best games released that year.
12 Undertale
Undertale is one of the largest indie games of the last decade. It is one of the most unique RPGs out there, with multiple ways to handle battling. The game offers a ton of replayabi🧸lity thanks to having multiple endings. The game even goes as far as to encourage multiple playthroughs, altering some of the events in the game based on this.
It's available on Game Pass, making Undertale very easy to play. Even without Game Pass, Undertale is more than worth checking out, as it's one of the most original and innovative games on the entire platform.
11 ✅ Slay The Spire
S♊lay The Spire is a deck-building roguelike. It comes with multiple playable characters, each with unique cards available only to them as well as a pool of cards that each character can use. Slay The Spire offers three levels with an extra fourth, as well as a daily challenge that gives unique changes to runs where you can compete against other players for the top score.
The game is available on Game Pass, letting its users try it out easily. The game is very easy to u✨nderstand, but how to master the ins and outs and optimal paths to go down each run.

One of the most innovative first-person shooter games, Superhot is a fantastic indie game that originated as a browser game. The full version offers some of the 🌌most🐻 unique mechanics the genre has ever seen.
When you're not moving, the game will go into slow motion giving the game strategy elements to plan out your next moves. These mechanics make Superhot incredibly fun, and worth space on your hard drive. It's rare for a first-person shooter to make such bold moves to the formula, but it's something Superhot did to great effect. It's not on Game Pass, but you can purchase it on the store, and it's more than worth it.

It takes the incredibly popular Metroidvania style of games and adds in roguelike elements to make for one of the most fun games in the genre. The pixel art is beautiful, with incredibly tight controls to make for some of the most fun platforming you can have. Celeste has won a multitude of awards, including one for Best Independent Game at the Game Awards in 2018. With a genre that has fallen off in recent years, Celeste fills the hole that platformers left behind. Mechanics are continuously added as you progress through the game, and with its air movements, makes for one of the best platformers ever. While you can't get the game on Game Pass, it's definetely one you should consider buying.
