Bloober Team has been focusing on psychological horror since 2016, a trend that originated with the release of Layers of Fear. Revolving around a painter who is going through a mental breakdown while trying to create his masterpiece, Layers of Fear tells a gripping and complex story that constantly plays around with perception and🧸 reality.
Layers of Fear's gameplay is not especially memorable, part🍎icularly the puzzles, but the game's presentation more than makes up for any shortcomings.
7 Call of Cthulhu ꧑
Few names hold as much we🤡ight in the horror genre as H. P. Lovecraft. Inspired by perhaps the author's most famous story, 2019's Call of Cthulhu is a flawed but intermittently effective game that is at its best when focusing on its unexplainable horror and setting. Unfortunately, Call of Cthulhu also happens to be an underwhelming RPG with mediocre at best gameplay.
Despite iღts many failings, Call of Cthulhu serves up an adequate sample of Lovecraftian h⛄orror.
6 Alan Wake

P🎉athologic 2 is purposefully unforgiving and reaching an endpoint will require multiple playthroughs and submitting to desperate acts like theಌft to survive. Unraveling the town's mysteries will take a lot of patience and work, but it is worth it.

Substituting Amnesia: The Dark Descent's castle for a submerg🐟ed research facility, Frictional Games' Soma is a sci-fi horror epic that confidently tackles familiar but provocative themes while delivering the studio's sജtrongest narrative.
As often tends to be the case with Frictional Games' titles, Soma's protagonist wakes up in a strange place with no idea how he got there and what the setting represents. Soma immerses you into its worl🍸d, letting the setting's innate horror and the fear of the unknown speak for themselves.
