Microsoft's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Xbox Series X (and Series S) has finally hit shelves, providing customers with the option to upgrade to the most powerful home system on the market. The Xbox Series X's backward compatibility means it launched with a library of hundreds of games, but exciting new exclusives made specifically for the hardware are a ways off. One such example is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Medium, Bloober 𓆏Team's🔯 latest psychological horror game that is set to debut at the beginning of 2021.

The Medium looks promising and hopefully will be worth the wait; in the meantime, there are plenty of other tꦰitles compatible with the Xbox Series X that are more than capable of supplying a ni💦ghtmare or two.

10 Amnesia: The Da♑rk Descent ꦇ

dark castle room from Amnesia

All of the Amnesia games besides 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:2020's Rebirth are available on theℱ Xbox Series X. Out of all of them, 2010's The Dark Descent is the only entry that is a must-play for a🥂nyone remotely interested in horror.

Set in an atmospheric castle ಞpacked with terrors around every corner, The Dark Descent tells a deeply unsettling tale soaked in mystery, intrigue, and twists. The minimalistic gameplay complements the game's visuals and sound design to create an experience that never hits a lull.

9 🌼 Blair Witch

Created by The Medium's Bloober Team, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Blair Witch sees the developer expanding on earlier projects to create a more open-ended and explorative title. As Blair Witch spreads its intense bouts of horror across an eight-hour campaign, the game is often just creepy rather than downright terrifying. While not the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:scariest game on the market, Blair Witch handles its survival horror mechanics and storyline f🧸airly well.

The Medium is likely to build upon some of the ideas present in Blair Witch, making the latter ♋an ideal opening act for the former.

8 ❀ 🌠 Layers Of Fear

Layers Of Fear 1 game

Bloober Team has been focusing on psychological horror since 2016, a trend that originated with the release of Layers of Fear. Revolving around a painter who is going through a mental breakdown while trying to create his masterpiece, Layers of Fear tells a gripping and complex story that constantly plays around with perception and🧸 reality.

Layers of Fear's gameplay is not especially memorable, part🍎icularly the puzzles, but the game's presentation more than makes up for any shortcomings.

7 Call of Cthulhu ꧑

Call of Cthulhu game

Few names hold as much we🤡ight in the horror genre as H. P. Lovecraft. Inspired by perhaps the author's most famous story, 2019's Call of Cthulhu is a flawed but intermittently effective game that is at its best when focusing on its unexplainable horror and setting. Unfortunately, Call of Cthulhu also happens to be an underwhelming RPG with mediocre at best gameplay.

Despite iღts many failings, Call of Cthulhu serves up an adequate sample of Lovecraftian h⛄orror.

6 Alan Wake

Alan Wake game

Remedy Entertainment has been trying to merge 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:cinematic storytelling꧃ with engagin🔯g gameplay for the majority of its existence, and Alan Wake might be the closest the studio has come to perfecting that mix. Released originally on the Xbox 360, Alan Wake takes a page or two from psychologicaꦓl thriller classics like Twin Peaks and, to a lesser extent, Silent Hill by emphasizing a central town that is nothing if not peculiar.

Although qui🐬te action-driven, Alan Wake never sacrifices its a🍌tmosphere or pacing for the sake of a cheap thrill.

5 The Silent H💯ill Franchise

Silent Hill downpour

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Silent Hill needs no intro𝄹duction. When it comes to psychological horror, gaming can offer nothing better than the first three entries in the series. Xbox Series X owners can play the Silent Hill: HD Collection, Homecoming, and Downpour; unfortunately, they cannot experience Konami's license at its best.

The latter two have their moments but are generally considered among the weakest releases in the franchise. The collection delivers a serviceable version of Silent Hill 3 and an underwhelming 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Silent Hill 2, with the latter losing a lot of what made the original version so frightening. These Silent Hill games are still worth checking out but they are not represe💙ntative of the franchi🍃se as a whole.

4 Hellblade: Senua's❀ Sacrifice

Senua readies her sword against a charging demon amid a pitch dark atmosphere.

Describing Ninja Theory's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice as "horror" might be🌃 a bit of a stretch, but the game presents a truly 𒈔haunting study in psychosis and mental health.

Even though it does not contain many especially frightful moments of extreme fear, Hellblade maintains a constant state of tension as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Senua travels through Helheim to try and save a recen🐟tly deceased loved one. Lasting less than 10 hours, Hellblade packs a lot of depth into its brisk journey, with puzzle sections and combat serving to break up or enhance its story beats.

3 🐬 Patholog𒁏ic 2

Pathologic 2 - Numerous Executors standing together bathed in pink and blue light

A reimagining of 2005's Pathologic, 2019's release retains the non-linear and survival elements๊ that helped define its predecessor. Like the original title, Pathologic 2 provides little guidance on how to progress, although there is a general goal to survive within the unwelcoming to🐲wn for 12 days.

P🎉athologic 2 is purposefully unforgiving and reaching an endpoint will require multiple playthroughs and submitting to desperate acts like theಌft to survive. Unraveling the town's mysteries will take a lot of patience and work, but it is worth it.

2 Soma

soma game

Substituting Amnesia: The Dark Descent's castle for a submerg🐟ed research facility, Frictional Games' Soma is a sci-fi horror epic that confidently tackles familiar but provocative themes while delivering the studio's sജtrongest narrative.

As often tends to be the case with Frictional Games' titles, Soma's protagonist wakes up in a strange place with no idea how he got there and what the setting represents. Soma immerses you into its worl🍸d, letting the setting's innate horror and the fear of the unknown speak for themselves.

1 Outlast 2

Outlast 2 game

The sequel to 2013's Outlast is a strange beast that seems unsure whether it wants to be a gory slasher or an emotionally-driven character study; ultimately, Outlast 2 does both relatively well. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Running and hidin♎g from monsters a𝓰nd killers remains the name of the game, but Outlast 2 also unravels a dark tale that deals w🐟ith child abuse, cults, and suicide.

Although it has its issues, Outlast 2 is an ambitious project that explores 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:delicate topics with sensitivity.
