Thank🌠s to leaked FTC court documents, it has been revealed that Xbox is working on a Series X mid-console revision that is e🔯ntirely digital with 2TB of storage, aiming to launch in October of next year.

It will be the same price as the current, base Series X at $499 and🎀 will feature much of the same hardware, the main differences being the storage size, lack of disc drive, and redesign.

This new Xbox Series X is codenamed 'Brooklin', described as "The most powerful Xbox ever, now adorably all digital". The design is more cylindrical than the cuboid base console, but features a similar front with a singular USB-C port and logo power button.

"Brooklin will deliver 4K Gen9 console gaming with more internal storage, faster Wi-Fi, reduced power, a more immersive controller, and a beautiful redesign that elevates the all-digital experience of the Xbox ecosystem," Microsoft writes. It lists that the console comes with an "all-new southbridge to modernise IO and sustain♔ability efforts", a new "Wi-Fi 6E radio for better throughput latency", and a "new low-power standby mode that is 20 percent of current Xbox Series S standby mode".

Also leaked was a new Xbox controller with gyro and haptic feedback called 'Sebile'. Microsoft touts that it will work with Bluetooth and direct-to-cloud, meaning you can pair it with your mobile device. It also features "VCA haptics [that] double as speakers" and "quieter buttons and thumbstick". However, one of the most noteworthy improvements is that it will come with a rechargeable and swappable battery. This controller will reportedly be announced later this year.

While Xbox launched the Series X alongside a lower-power Series S variꦚant that was intended to be a cheaper, more affordable option, Sony launched the PS5 alongside a digital variant at $100 l🌟ess. The new Series X, however, is the same price as the base model despite being digital only.

You get better Wi-Fi and higher internal storage, but you won't be able to play second-hand games or buy cheaper physical copies. It's also worth noting that not all backwards compatible games are playable digitally, such as The Orange Box and FEAR. As such, a digital-only console will cut back on what Xbox 360 games you can play.
