Xbox has historically struggled to find traction with Japanese audiences. While Sony’s new PlayStation 5 has easily surpassed a mill💫ion units sold before the end of its fཧirst year (and probably would have sold more had it not been for a global pandemic, logistical bottlenecks, and a global chip shortage), Microsoft typically doesn’t break into the millions of units. Even a strategy of exclusive titles from big-name Japanese develop🦋ers never convinced the average Jaꦉpanese gamer to give Xbox a try.

But perhaps that’s finally changing. Phil Spencer not🌺ed that adding Japanese developers to Xbox Studios, as with Tango Gameworks during the ZeniMax acquisition, might finally give Xbox inroad🎃s in Japan.

"I’ve talked for a long time about our desire to have more of a first-party pres🐠ence in Japan,” Spencer said soon after the Bethesda presentation in March. “This is a great step there."
