Expectant viewers of Wednesday's Nintendo Direct were hit a barrage of new information regarding upcoming games and new developments Nintendo has in store. While there are plenty of reasons for gamers to be excited, fans of the  series were probably than elated to learn that the original Xenoblade Chronicles will be remastered and released under the title Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch in 2020. And judging by the glimpses the Directꩲ has given us, it looks as if this port will be an aesthet🔯ic masterpiece to be enjoyed.

While Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition may seem like just ꦑa port of the original game,  the revamped animation seems to insinuate that the game will be a full-on remake. If not narratively, then certainly design-wise.

The most apparent differences viewers will notice is the upgraded character models. Otherwise, it appears that environments and other minuscule details are given a complete makeover. From this, it can be inferred that Definitive Edition will be supported on a different engine than its predecessor, giving the game more visually in common with Xenoblade Chronicles X than Xenoblade Chronicles 2 ().

Since Nintendo never really prioritized graphics as much as other developers (even with the release of the Switch), it's interesting that Definitive Edition might be one of the games that bucks this trend. And this seems to point in the direction that, yes, a Nintendo Switch Pro is a viable ജpossibilit🀅y in the future.

Comparing Definitive Edition to the original Xenoblade Chronicles may seem like the most obvious thing to do, but the sheer difference between both games' graphics, especially within the span of a decade, is indicative that Nintendo is willing to brea🌳k tradition in order to push boundaries. Sure, the comparison between the old and new graphics might not 🦩be as apparent as say, two games being remade twenty years apart, but to see such a crisp, life-like graphics will not only bring a fresh twist to a nostalgic game but also create a brand new experience for a generation of gamers that may have never had the opportunity to play the original game.
