According to a new blog post, originally , where Kiryu would ๊become a tuna fisherman and fight fishing boats in the sea. It’s clear how this turned into Pirate Yakuza – after all, Majima is also roaming the seas and kicking butts on boats.

As glad as I am that Pirate Yakuza exists – a spin-off with Majima as the protagonist titled something as ridiculous as Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii can only be a good thing – I♔’m mourning this game that never got made.

Closure For Kiryu

Spoiler warning fo✤♐r the ending of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. At the end of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, we see Kiryu finally agreeing to go through treatment for his cancer after reuniting with Haruka. It’s clear that he isn’t in his prime anymore: he’s older, weaker, and definitely not up to taking down hordes of younger men single-handedly. I doubt he’ll ever be the main protagonist of another Like a Dragon game, considering this game more or less concretely passed the baton to Ichiban, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:one of my favourite game 🐷protagonists🍃 of all time.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t get a Kiryu spin-off, ⛄and Tuna (god, what a great title) could have been exactly that. Kiryu may not be beating Yakuza up anymo💦re, but as we all know, he can’t help but fight for the greater good. It would have offered players some closure on Kiryu’s story knowing that even though he’s a little worse for wear, he’s getting to do something he loves (fishing has been a prominent minigame throughout most of the series) and he’s still standing by his principles while he does it.

Then again, Infinite Wealth’s whole thing was giving Kiryu’s story some semblance of closure while endearing us to his successor. Tuna wouldn’t be necessary for that… but it co🐬uld have been great nonetheless.

Like A Dragon Deserves More Genre Diversity

There’s no saying what Like a Dragon: Tuna would have been like. Nobody expected 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ryu Ga Gotoku to put out a sea-faring Majima🐽 spin-off akin to Black Flag, and while this was definitely the more original and surprising idea, I can’t help but wonder what Tuna would have been like. As I mentioned earlier, the series has had fishing minigames for ages – could it have expanded on those mechanics and created a sprawling fishing game alongside Kiryu’s usual brawling antics?

Or maybe it would have been more akin to , last year’s very good and very scary indie fishing game. Or , last year’s very good and not scary, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:not-indie till later fꦺishing game. Maybe it would have still been a Black Flag-like, but more peaceful. Maybe Kiryu would have landed on an island like Dondoko and created his own little fishing village.

I Love How Old-Fashioned Like A Dღragon’s Take On Pirates Is

Is there a reason Like a Dragon's✃ pirate ships look like they're from hundreds of years ago? I do😼n't know, but I love it.

Whatever it i🌊s, spin-offs are the perfect avenue for RGG to experiment with the kind of games it makes – as RGG studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama says in the blog post, “The Like a Dragon series is like an all-you-can-eat restaurant where you can choose from meat,🍃 seafood, and anything else you want and eat however much you like. But as you mature, you start to appreciate well-balanced, good-proportion meals. Spin-offs are like that.”

And what’s 🥃an all-you-can-eat restaurant without diversity in flavour? Judgment turned us into a detective, after all, and Ishin sent us back in time. The soul of the series remained, but the developers could get a little weird with the premise and execution – well, weirder than the series already is, anyway.

We can only dream of what could have been. Like a Dragon: Tuna doesn🐻’t exist, but Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii does, and that’s enough for me. But the mental image of Kiryu hauling a gigantic tuna onto a trawler will haunt me in m🔜y dreams.
