Die Hard was released in 1988 and follows the story of NYPD detective John McClane who is hoping to reconcile with his estranged wife Holly in LA. As he arrives and changes into a fresh set of clothes, the building is captured by German radical Hans Gruber and his equally violent team who are there to steal $640 million of bearer bonds while posing as terrorists. This iconic movie had long been overdue the tabletop treatment with the dramatic undertones providing the perfect premise for an action-adventure. The designers talked about the choice to start the first act starts with a small boar🐽d and as the game progresses and objectives are met, increasing the size as the acts progressꦰ. This gives a larger play area for the second act, and bigger again for the third. This stylistic choice was deliberate as it helps players feel the scope and atmosphere of the movie as the story unfolds.
The designers also talked about placing the Die Hard movie at the center of the experience, almost a character in its own right. Many of the movie's famous scenes are includ✨ed but a McClane victory is far from guaranteed. McClane must stop the bad guys while they must crack the safe and make off with the contents.
