I hate The Butcher. 💦Hearing a rattling chain in-game now is eno🎐ugh to send me into a button-spamming, cursing panic. For the uninitiated, this hulking beast is a mini-boss in Diablo 4 who spawns randomly as you explore any of the dungeons littered across Sanctuary. He moves fast. He hits like a truck. There is a good chance you will not survive. You don’t know when he’ll spawn – for some people, he might not spawn for a long, long time. While some players have gotten to nearly level 60 without encountering him once, I’ve had the misfortune of encountering him several times before even hitting level 30. I got crushed every time, often within seconds. I have a glass cannon build! I panic easily! I’m not built for this kind of pressure!
The first time he spawned, I was a paltry level 11 Sorcerer. I was minding my own business, working through an early dungeon, when I heard something bellow, “Fresh meat!&༺rdquo; A gigantic, horned beast wearing an apron lumbered onto my screen, brandishing a massive axe and hook. I barely had time to say “What the —?” before he had smashed me into oblivion. The second time, I was maybe level 14, and I got crushed just as easily. The third, I wa♎s level 20, and, to absolutely nobody’s surprise, I got decimated. My experience is far from unique – many people have encountered The Butcher and had their asses handed to them. There’s no way to grind till you overlevel him, because of Diablo 4’s level scaling. You’ll always be around the same level as him, and he can always kick your ass.
The Butcher has been around since the first Diablo, making him an infamous and ever-present character in the canon. He was the main boss in a quest titled “The Butcher” in the🔯 first game, in which he also dealt massive damage while having an unreasonable amount of health to whittle away a💟t. He was also in Diablo 3 as part of an Anniversary Dungeon and now, in Diablo 4, is a randomly spawned deadly encounter. He has been kicking players’ asses from the start, and he probably will continue to do so.
