While monster types have always been present in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Yu-Gi-Oh! card game, archetypes - or groups of cards supported due to their names or the name of the group they belong to - didn't start appearing until a little later. These days, archetypes are everywhere, and most popular decks usually center around one due to their strategies.
Many archetypes that have appeared throughout Yu-Gi-Oh's history have been based on various things, including but not limited to mythical creatures, aliens, superheroes, and more. Some archetypes are also heavily based on other series from around the world, including books, TV shows, and video games.
10 ꩲ ꧙ Morphtronic
The Morphtronic archetype consists of multi-attribute Machine-type monsters based on the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Transformers franchise, but instead of transforming into vehicles or animals, they transform into everyday electronics like radios and smartphones. The Japanese name for Morphtronics, Deformers, also serves as a more o🐻bvious homage to their inspiration.
The Trap card Morphtransition, called Deform in Japanese, even shows Morphtronic Magnen in the process of transforming, as the card negates an attack against one Morphtronic monster and switches its battle position. At first glance, Morphtronics seem small and weak, but they can boost each other stats and allow for easier summoning from the ღExtra Deck.
9 Dragonmaid ꦬ
The Dragonmaid archetype is based on Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid anime series, and the creator, coolkyousinnjya, even approved of it. Each Dragon Maid has a human form with their positions in their names, while the names of their 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:dragon forms rearrཧange the letters of the word for their jobs, such as Dragonmaid Nurse tran🐟sforming into Dragonmaid Ernus.
Despite the former being more humꦇan in appearance, all Dragonmaid cards are Dragon-type. The strategy of Dragonmaid decks has th𓆏e Dragonmaids constantly switching between their human and dragon forms due to their effects, with constant Special Summoning, so a deck that works against Special Summoning can be a real hindrance to them.
8 Brothe🅠rhood Of The Fire Fist
The Brotherhood of the Fire Fist archetype is a group of Fire attribute Beast-Warrior monsters based on the 108 heroes of Water Margin, one of six classic Chinese novels. Th🎉e card game, luckily, does not feature 108 cards within the archetype, at least for now.
The strategy for the Fire Fist archetype has members being able to summon each other, or level three Fire attribute monsters in general, to swarm the field and summon the Extra Deck members of the archetype. As of writing, there are only 28 Fire Fist monsters, three spell cards, and two trap cards, so there's still plenty that could be added in the future.
7 Metalfoes
The Metalfoes, called Metalphosis in Japan, are Fire attribute Psychic-🍨type monsters primarily based on the science fiction anime series Genesis Climber MOSPEADA and Megazone 23, the first of whꦬich also served as the basis for the third generation of Robotech.
Many members of the Metalfoes archetype are Pendulum Monsters, allowing players to Pendulum Summon more membe⛦rs and more easily summon the Fusion Monster members. There are also cards within the archetype based on Akira and Fullmetal Alchemist, although the latter is on🥃ly a reference due to its name, Fullmetalfoes Alkahest.
6 Entities
The Entity archetype consists of three groups: Old Entity, Elder Entity, and Outer Entity, all of which are based on various beings from HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos and other works inspired by it, more specifically the Elder G🍷odꦦs, Old Gods, and Outer Gods, respectively.
Each Entity group has two monsters of a different Extra Deck type, with Elder Entities being Fusion Monsters, Old Entities being Synchro Monsters, and Outer Entities being Xyz Monsters. Since this archetype is primarily Extra Deck monsters, all cards among it are relatively splashable except for the Spell card Forbidden Trapozohedron; there isn't enough support for a proper archetype deck.
5 Magikey
The Magikey archetype is primarily based on The Lesser Key of Solomon, a real-life Grimoire from the 17th century, but interestingly enough is also inspired by 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Kingdom Hearts. The main 𝓡monster, Clavkiys, The Magikey Skyblaster, is a Normal Monster that somewhat resembles Sora,𒈔 although his weapon is Magikey Maftea, a magical talking gun.
Clavkiys' description also sounds very similar to several introduction monologues from various Kingdom Hearts games. In case that wasn't enough, there are also Magikey Spell and Trap cards that refer to locking and unlocking, similar to how different worlds are locked or unlocked throughout the different Kingdom Hearts games.
4 SPYRAL
The SPYRAL archetype is based on a combination of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:James Bond and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Metal Gear, with each human monster being an amalgamation of𒁃 characters from each series. For example, SPYRAL Quik-Fix is based on both Q from the James Bond series and Hal "Otacon" Emmerich from Metal Gear Solid.
SPYRAL cards focus on searching for and summoning each other and can help the player destroy their opponent's Spell and Trap cards, with SPYRAL Super Agent being the most integral card. The SPYRAL Gear and SPYRAL Mission cards also help provide further support, allowing the player to perform several combos against their opponent.
3 ꦐ Time Thief 🅷
The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Time Thief archetype is primarily based on characters from the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Doctor Who series. Ho♔wever, it has also been suggested that they were inspired by Time Hollow, a 2008 Nintendo DS visual novel by Konami. All Time Thief monsters share a Dark attribute but consist of two monster types; P✃sychic and Machine.
The Psychic-type monsters are based on the various doctors and their companions, while the Machine-type monsters are based on the tools they use. Time Thieves can attach themselves to the Xyz Monsters of the opponent, interrupting whatever strategy is be🧔ing used with them. Some Time Thief cards are also more splashable than others, useful in sevꦓeral Xyz-centric decks.
2 ♍ Ancient War💮riors
The Ancient Warriors archetype is a group of Beast-Warrior-type monsters of different attributes based on characters from the historical novel, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, although these days, Koei Tecmo's strategy RPG series of the same name based on the novel may be more well known.
Each attribute the monsters have also represents the kingdom that the characters they are based on are from. The strategy of Ancient Warriors revolves around summoning more archetype members to h🍰elp the player control the field. Unfortunately, this archetype is often overlooked despite having 12 monsters, four Spell cards, and Two trap cards.
1 ✨ Six Samurai ♏
While the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Six Samurai archetype seems to be just based on the idea of samurai in general, they 𒀰are likely also based on several Akira Kurosawa films, particularly 🤪Seven Samurai and Kagemusha. The designs of both members of the archetype and members from the related Shien archetype seem to be heavily inspired by characters from those films.
All Six Samurai monsters are Warrior-type, so they also benefit from♒ many Warrior support cards that exist in the game. Six Samurai decks have also been very popular to use for years due to their increased support, becoming a part of🌌 the metagame.
