Our guide delves deep into the Diabellstar engine's mechanics and applications. We'll explore its key cards, dissect advanced strategies, and equip you with the insights necessary to integಞrate this fantastic new engine into your deck.

Key Cards Of The Diabellstar Engine

The Diabellstar engine in Yu-Gi-Oh! revolves around a few key cards that work in tandem to provide strategic advantages; including fetching out combo pieces from your deck, setting up your graveyard, and helping you build a board with powerful Extra Deck monsters.

Cards

Explanation

Diabellstar the Black Witch

The namesake of the Diabellstar engine. Its effect to easily Special Summon itself coupled with setting a Sinful Spoils Spell directly from the deck is what enables the entire engine to work. Recommended to run two or three copies for consistency, but some decks can get away with jus🧜t🦋 one.

WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils

This Quick-Play Spell is what you’ll use to search out Diabellstar the Black Witch. It can give you a free draw by recycling other Sinful Spoils from the graveyard or banished cards back to the deck. Recommended to run three copies for consistency.

Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye

This Spell is the main reason you’re playing the Diabellstar engine, letting you Special Summon a Level 1 FIRE monster from the hand or deck. It’s the priority target for Diabellstar’s "search to set" effect. Generally, one copy is sufficient due to its searchability.

Because this engine comprises just five to seven cards, it is easily splashable in any decks that incorporate Level 1 FIRE monsters in their strategies, such as Rescue-ACE and Infernoble Knights.

How Diabellstar Works

Two panel image of various Sinful Spoils support cards-1

The Diabellstar engine revolves around utilizing both Diabellstar the Black Witch and Original Sinful Spoils to bring out any Level 1 FIRE monster from your hand or deck, setting the stage for expansive and impactful combos.

Though the final board each deck achieves with the engine may vary, the initial sequence of play remains largely the same.

  1. During the Draw Phase, activate your WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to add Diabellstar the Black Witch from your deck or graveyard to your hand. Thanks to it being a Quick-Play Spell, you’re able to circumvent Droll & Lock Bird, a popular hand trap that can only be played during the Main Phase.
  2. During your Main Phase, Special Summon Diabellstar the Black Witch by sending one card from your hand or field to the graveyard. Upon being summoned, activate its effect to set Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye from your deck.
  3. Activate Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye by sending one face-up card you control to the graveyard. Then Special Summon a Level 1 FIRE monster of your choice from your hand or deck. Popular targets to Special Summon include Rescue-ACE Hydrant, Jet Synchron, and Infernoble Knight Ricciardetto.

After step three, you’ll be able to activate the effect of WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils in your graveyard to return Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye to the bottom of your deck, to draw a card.

When using Original Sinful Spoils, any face-up card can be used to pay its cost, potentially freeing Diabellstar to act as a 2500 ATK beater or as Level 7 material for a range of powerful Synchro and XYZ monsters.

Decks That Can Use Diabellstar

At its core, the Diabellstar engine is setting your board up with a Level 1 FIRE monster of your choosing and a free draw, all without using up your normal summon. That’s not bad at all — but depending on the deck you’re playing and the FIRE type you bring out, the value of this eng🌌ine can rise from that of a diamond to a shooting Diabellstar.

The engine also provides several opportunities for you to send cards from your hand or field to the graveyard, which a surprising number of decks can benefit from.

Rescue-ACE

Snake-Eye
