Master Duel, one of the biggest and most flagrant "Screw the rules, I have money&🌳quot; ways to do it is with the Pendulum Summoning mechanic.
With just two monsters, you can quickly fill the field with many of your best pieces. But knowing how Pendulum Summoning works, and how to build your deck around it, is vital to getting the most out of it. Here is everything you need to know about Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel's Pendulum Summon.
What Is A Pendulum Monster?
Pendulum Summoning is one of the game's six types of Special Summon. Unlike some other types of Special Summons, you can only Pendulum Summon once per turn, but you can summon multiple monsters at once with it. To do this, you'll need special monsters known as Pendulum Monsters.
You can identify a Pendulum monster by it being a Monster card colour the top half, and a Spell card on the bottom. They also have two gems on either side of the card – a blue on the left, and a red on the right. The number underneath this is the monster's Pendulum Scale. For example, D/D Dog has a Pendulum Scale of three, while Archfiend Eccentrick has a Pendulum Scale of seven.
Pendulum Monsters are special because they can either be summoned as monsters, or placed on the field as Spell cards. When used as spells, they're placed into the farthest left and farthest right of your Spell and Trap zones – known as Pendulum Zones when a Pendulum Monster is in them. When a Pendulum Monster is in a Pendulum Zone, it's treated as if it was a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spell card, not a Monster. You couldn't Raigeki a Pendulum Monster in the Pendulum Zone, but you could Mystical Space Typhoon one.
Keep in mind that this used to be different; when Pendulum Summoning was introduced, there were o𝔉riginally two Pendulum Zones on the field that were distinct from the Spell and Trap zones. These were removed later, and now Pendulum Monsters use up one of your five Spell and Trap slots instead.
Another huge difference between a Pendulum Monster and other monsters is that, if they would be sent to the graveyard (GY) from the field, they're instead sent to your Extra Deck face-up. This only applies if the Pendulum Monster is leaving the field, if it's sent to the Graveyard from your hand, deck, or anywhere else in the game, it'll just go to the Graveyard as normal.
Pendulum Monsters can also have Pendulum Effects, which are written in the text box between the two Scales. For example, Performapꦦal Pendulum Sorcerer – one of the most iconic Pendulum Monsters in the game – gives all your Performapal monsters +1000 ATK until the end of the turn whenever a Performapal Monster is Pendulum Summoned.
Sometimes a Pendulum Effect may be a downside, though, such as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Performapal Skullcrobat Joker limiting the monsters you can Pendulum Summon. It's important to weigh up these effects, and whether you'd rather normal summon a Pendulum Monster or use it in a Pendulum Zone.
How To Pendulum Summon
To Pendulum Summon, you need to have two Pendulum Monsters in your Pendulum Zones. The Pendulum Scale on each monster sets the bounds for the levels of monsters you can Pendulum Summon. While in theory Konami could produce Pendulum Monsters with different red and blue scales, as of 2022 no such card has been produced, so it doesn't matter which Pendulum Zone each monster is placed in.
For example, let's assume you have a Performapal BaroKuriboh, who has a Pendulum Scale of one, in one of your Pendulum Zones, and a Performapal Celestial Magician with a Pendulum Scale of eight in the other.
Once per turn, on one of your Main Phases, you can Pendulum Summon as 🌟many monsters from your hand or face-up in your Extra Deck whose levels fall between the two monsters in your Pendulum Zones. With one monster having a Scale of one and the other a Scale of eigh♚t, we can summon as many level two, three, four, five, six, and seven monsters as we want.
The one thing to remember is that, when Pendulum Summoning a monster from your Extra Deck, it must go to either your one Extra Monster Zone, or a Main Monster zone that a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Link Monster points to (the red arrows on a Link Monster card show which zones it's pointing to). This means that, unless you have a Link Monster out, you'll usually only be able to summon one monster from your Extra Deck. You can still summon as many from your hand as can fit on the field, though.
Even with this caveat, Pendulum Summoning is incredibly powerful. Floodiജng the field is almost always good, and keeping a Pendulum Monster out of play for more than a turn can beꦇ very tricky thanks to them must coming back from the Extra Deck in the next turn.
