Yuke's has reiterated that it remains focused on creating its own wrestling IP as rumors circulate that there will be no WWE 2K offering this year.
WWE 2K20 was a disaster, and that is probably putting it mildly. While WWE games have been accused of being more or less the same game with updated rosters each year since the franchise was taken over by 2K, 2K20 was something else. The glitches, the issues, it became u🍎nplayable at th🐓e turn of the year. Madness.
After the wrestling video game community was done making memes and having a good old laugh about it, the serious suggestions and critique started to come. That instead of continuing to make an easy buck every year, 2K should consider taking a year off. Put all of its efforts intoඣ making a great game in 2021 rather than releasing another mediocre one later this year.
When 2K was asked if the rumors suggesting it will be taking this advice are true, it neglected to comment. However, Yuke's shed a little more light on the situation. Yuke's has paired up with various developers on WWE games, working on every single installment in some capacity since 1999. However, if there is going to be a WWE game from 2K this year, it🌳 will be the first this century to not have any input from Yuke's.
Yuke's confirmed to Video Games Chronicle that it has no involvement with WWE 2K any longer. Therefore it could neither confirm nor deny rumors that there will be ♛no WWE game this year. The mere fact that Yuke's no longer wants anything to do with the franchise is pretty telling though, especially after 20 years in the business.
Despite Yuke's inability to comment, and 2K's reluctance to, there are indicators suggesting there will be no WWE 2K21. The game is normally announced at WrestleMania each year. That didn't happen. 2K has usually started doing motion capture with wrestlers by now. There have been no reports of that. It's also possible that competition will heat up in 2021 as AEW may have released its first video game by then. Perhaps that's 🐻the new wrestling IP Yuke's is currently working on.
