New Gods was going to be a brand new DC Comics movie that would introduce us to lesser-known characters like Orion, Metron, and Mister Miracle, but 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:DC canceled the 𒁃film earlier this year. At the time DC didn't provide any explanation, but as it turns out, it might have been all due to Darkseid's appearance in Zack Snyder's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Justice League (better known as the Snyder Cut).

Ava DuVernay, the Wrinkle in Time director who was going to write the film's script alongside Rebirth-era Batman comics writer Tom King, recently did an where she discussed New Gods and its unfortunate cancellation.

"My overall deal was at Warner Brothers and DC is at Warner Brothers," DuVernay said. "So, once I got to Warner Brothers, I was like, 'I'm going in that vault and I'm looking at what y'all got.' And I loved New Gods, which is the project that got axed. The studio decided that they did not want to pursue a certain part of that comic world, based on some things that were going on with another film in that world.

"So, before I even was able to kind of complete my script with Tom King, they axed it. But I had already 𝓡two projects going: Naomi, which will be on The CW next year, and DMZ, which will be on HBO Max 🌸next year."

Although she doesn't name the project, DuVernay was probably referring to Zack Snyder's Justice League as the two were in production around the same time and both would have featured Darkseid as the big baddie. Apparently, DC didn't want there to be crossover between the two films where the same villain appeared twice.

However, that explanation seems a bit weird as New Gods would have revealed Darkseid's origins and why he's such an evil character. This would have built him up for an eventual confrontation with the Justice League in a future movie a la Avenger's Endgame.

But apparently, DC didn't want to go toe-to-toe with Marvel's big blockbusters. A shame, as it would've brought out some DC superheroes other than Batman and Superman.
