The release of this 1997 classic Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation paved the way for JRPGs to enter the mainstream and solidified the genre for decades to come. Even modern titles like Persona 5 and Octopath Traveler hav⭕e to credit tﷺheir success to , without which such games would never have seen the light of day.
There are several elements of this title that contribute to its overall brilliance, but getting into all these aspects is a discussion💦 for another day. Instead, what we're going to focus on is one particular character and his memorable interactions in the game — namely, Barret. Our lovable gun-arm toting lunatic has said some memorable lines over the course of the original game, with the following 10 quotes being the absolute cream of the crop.
10 "It's Cuz Of That &^#$# 'Pizza' That People Undeಞrneath Are Sufferin'!" ▨
The manner in which Midgar has been constructed shows a very interesting class allegory, with the city divided into 8 sectors. While the people living on the top of these plates enjoy a relatively lavish lifestyle, it's the slum ⛎dwellers under the💎se sectors that are forced to live in a land of perpetual darkness.
This is the entire reason why Barret and AVALANCHE want to overthrow Shinra and remove these greedy capitalists from their thrones. However, calling thಌe sector plates "pizza" is still somewhat funny, regardless.
9 𒅌 "Don't Forget T✨hat Your Skinny Ass Is Workin' For AVALANCHE Now!"
Cloud and Barret don't exactly start 🎃off on the right foot, with the latter being especially vocal of his hatred when it comes to the seemi♉ngly privileged ex-SOLDIER.
There are several times when Barret chastizes Cloud, with this 💎line being perhaps the most memorable insult of the lot.
8 "Oh Yeah? Well To Me It Looks Like A Golden Shiny▨ W🐼ire Of Hope."
While Barret definitely warms up to Cloudꦚ over time, there are moments when they still have their fair share of banter regardless.
A great moment in this regard is when the party finds a wire that can potentially lead them to the highest sector in Midgar. While Cloud is quick to dismiss it as just a normal wire, Barretꦇ chimes in with this memorable quote that compels the party to move forward with the plan of climbing this "golden shiny wire of hope."
7 "Don'𒁃t Need No Appointment... This Is A 'Mergency! Anyone Who D♚on't Wanna Get Their Face Bashed In Better Git Outta The Way!!"
The infiltration of Shinra Headquarters is a memorable event at the end of the Midgar segment in Final Fantasy VII. This is especially true if the player decides to start off with a full-frontal assault, where Ba🥀rret decides to lambast a receptionist who was just trying to do her job.
Cue absolute chaos as the Shinra guards try an♏d stop t𒊎he party in their tracks.
6 "Shinra'r♔e The VꦗERMIN For Killing The Planet! Guess That'd Make You King VERMIN! So Shu'up Jackass!"
When Pre🍌sident Shinra meets the members of AVALANCHE for the first time, he proceeds to lambast the party by calling them vermin.
This doesn't si♔t well with Barret, who goes off on a tirade and spins the insult on Shinra in the funniest way possible. Unfortunately, Shinra doesn't take this insult sportingly and lets a huge robot loose on the heroes.
5 "Who You Callin' Mr. Barret? Thatꦡ Don't Sound Right!" 🐭
After the bloodbath at Shinra Headquarters, the party decides to make their way down ༺and escape Midgar once and for all.
After reaching the entrance, Aerith decides to tell the party to leave her and escape, which Barret dismisses outright. This prompts Aerith to thank Barret, addressing him as Mr. Barret. This miffs our lovable 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:gun-arm specialist, who points oꦬut 🐲the ludicrous addition of the honorific.
4 🧸 "Where's Its $#&*&@ Head? This Whole Thing's Stupid. Let's Keep Goin'."
Encountering JENOVA for the very first time is a harrowingꦚ event for the party, further compounded by the fact that the monstrosity you just fought was just its arm!
It's a very serious and horrifying moment... that's completely de𒁏stroyed by Barret when he utters this hilarious. Way to kill the tension there, Barret.
3 "Cetra? That Some Ki💯🥂nda Disease?"
Finding out about the Ancients for the very first time can prove to be quite overwhelming for anyone. This is especially true for Barret,🔯 whose reaction to hearing the name "Cetra" for the very first time is questi﷽oning whether it's a disease.
Barret isn't really the brightest person in the party, further eꦍxempl🌟ified by the following quote.
2 "I've Been Here Since The Beginning And I Stil🌼l Don't Know What The H♛ell's Goin' On."
It doesn't take an expert to state that most Final Fantasy plots are incredibly convoluted, and more than a few people definitely re﷽sonated with Barret when he said this absolute humdinger of a line at the Golden Saucer.
It's self-aware moments like this that truly make Barret's character memorable — a herculean task, given the fact that the entire dialogue was translated into English by just one person! While the dialogue of Final Fantasy VII is fairly infamous, we're glad to see that Barret retained some aspects of his personality, as💫 cliché as the𒐪y might be.
1 "I Don't Wanna 🧸Think Of Them As Dead!"
However, while most people might think of Barret as nothing more than 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a tasteless cliché, the fact of the matter is that he has some truly touching dialogue that offers a⛦ glimpse into the depth of this cജharacter.
Players do get to witness this when Barret encounters Dyne, but an early moment that shows us the emotions of this character is when Barret laments the loss of Jesse, Wedge, and Biggs after they're crushed by the Sector 7 plate. It's an incredibly humanizing moment that cements Barret as one of the greatest Final Fantasy characters of all time.
